HELP : What do I eat when doing Metafit?
This is a question I get asked very often. I know its a tough work out, but PLEASE try and eat something to fuel you through it! It seems that everyone knows the benefits of pre and post workout nutrition when it comes to weight training or endurance work. So is it important and relevant for Metafit too? That is a BIG YES!
Its really easy to neglect your “fuel” when doing HIIT style workouts, if you’re doing them properly you really can’t afford to get it wrong. You won’t last the distance fuelled on a lettuce leaf- because you’ll run out of energy. Really, can you expect your body to exercise intensely, efficiently and effectively for any amount of time without fuel?
So what should we be doing? I am not a nutritionist but having spoken to a few and my opinion is we need to opt for fast digesting
protein and carbs. This combo will provide the much needed energy to fuel the muscles. Bananas are my go too, but opt for anything like greek yoghurt and berries, apple with peanut butter, cup of berries/ oranges, dried fruit perhaps hommous and some cut up veggies. Remember that what you eat pre workout will fuel your workout but you have to replenish and follow up with some low GI for your recovery and to keep you going, think chicken breasts, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, omelettes or if you are going straight to work a protein shake.
DRINK WATER! Sips regularly even though you are performing HIIT you still sweat and need to replenish, I like to add magnesium powder to my water and get my quota in that way.
Listen to your body, don’t perform HIIT workouts if you are sick, sluggish or injured. Effective HIIT needs good fuel, good recovery time and water. Remember, by adding Metafit to your routine, you’ll see faster gains and achieve a leaner physique in less time.
