Landry Tchapda has added his name to the honour roll after producing a superb round to win the September 2026 Monthly Medal, finishing with an outstanding nett 3-under-par (-3) score.

In a tightly contested event, Landry held off a talented group of challengers, with Peter Higgins, Peter Blair, Greg McLeod and Robert Cook all finishing just one shot back on nett -2. A further group consisting of Shane Dobney, Philip Barry and Nick Dunshea rounded out the leading scores with excellent rounds of nett -1.

Monthly Medal events are always highly sought after, attracting some of the Club’s most consistent performers, and September’s edition was no exception. With scoring conditions proving challenging throughout the day, Landry’s ability to stay steady and minimise mistakes proved the difference. His winning score of -3 was enough to edge clear of a strong chasing pack and secure the coveted Monthly Medal.

The victory carries an added reward, with Landry now earning his place in the prestigious Medal of Medallists Board Event, scheduled to be played in February 2027. The annual event brings together the season’s Monthly Medal winners, providing an opportunity to compete against the club’s best performers for ultimate bragging rights.

Congratulations to Landry Tchapda on an excellent September Monthly Medal victory, and also to Peter Higgins, Peter Blair, Greg McLeod, Robert Cook, Shane Dobney, Philip Barry and Nick Dunshea for their strong performances. President David J Madigan has etched his name into Latrobe Golf Club history, defeating Peter Mutimer 2&1 in a high-quality Final to claim the 2026 Don Dunstan Memorial Trophy.

After weeks of fiercely contested handicap match play, the tournament culminated today with two deserving finalists taking to the course in search of one of the Club’s most prestigious Board Event titles. Both players had navigated a challenging path to the Final, but it was Madigan who ultimately prevailed, displaying composure, consistency and determination when it mattered most.

Entering the event as the number one seed, Madigan’s journey to the championship was anything but straightforward. He opened his campaign with a hard-fought 1 Up victory over Darrel Tchapda before overcoming Steven Cracknell 2 Up in the Quarter Finals. A commanding 4&3 Semi Final victory against Jaran McKay then secured his place in the decider.

Mutimer’s route to the Final was equally impressive. He defeated Eric Lehner 5&4 in the opening round, edged past Rowland Ryan 1 Up in a thrilling Quarter Final and then produced a superb 3&1 victory over Aloys Tchapda to earn his place in the championship match.

With both players entering the Final in outstanding form, members were treated to a closely fought contest befitting the occasion. Neither competitor was able to establish a significant advantage early, with momentum swinging throughout the match as each player responded to the challenge posed by the other.

Madigan got off to a flyer going 2 Up in the first two holes and held the advantage most of the round. As the match approached its closing stages, Madigan was able to hold the crucial edge, capitalising on key opportunities and maintaining his composure under pressure. Holding a 2-hole lead standing on the 17th tee, he secured the halved result required to close out the match and claim a deserved 2&1 victory.

Madigan’s triumph reflects the consistency and resilience he demonstrated throughout the tournament. Across four rounds he defeated a strong field of competitors and consistently rose to the occasion in important moments, culminating in a well-earned championship performance in the Final.

Congratulations to David J Madigan, the 2026 Don Dunstan Memorial Trophy Champion, and to Peter Mutimer for an outstanding tournament campaign and a highly competitive Final. Both players represented the spirit of match play golf exceptionally well and provided a fitting conclusion to another successful Don Dunstan Memorial Trophy board event.

The Women's Winter Cup and the Male & Female Junior Championships concluded last Sunday, in a thrilling conclusion to some of the Club's most coveted events.

Young star Lilian Bu emerged from the pack to claim both the Women's Winter Cup A Grade Gross title, as well as the Female Junior Championship after a fantastic second round 79. Lilian, equal leader after Round 1 in the Junior Championships and two shots behind in the Women's Winter Cup A Grade ended up claiming victory by 5 shots from Janine Gale in the Winter Cup, and by 10 shots in the Female Junior Championships.

Ann Ray played a fantastic second round in the Women's Winter Cup B Grade, claiming her first Winter Cup victory from Maureen Hocking by 4 strokes.

Debbie Dodd put together two fantastic rounds, a nett 70 followed by her stunning nett 67 second round to claim a commanding 10 shot victory in the A Grade Nett of the Women's Winter Cup, whilst B Grade Nett was won by Maureen Hocking, a nice consolation prize after just being pipped in the Gross section.

Finally, it was a day out for George Andriotis in the Male Junior Championships, victorious over Jeremy Rodgers by just one shot. Along with his victory, George also had a Hole in One on the first hole which helped him get over the line in tense battle that came right down to the wire. This was George's third Junior Championship coming in his final year of eligibility.

In the Nett, it was Oliver Ryan with a fantastic second round nett 65 that saw him claim victory from Thomas Sime by three shots. In the Female Nett, Hayati Reddy Shakupalla was the victor by two shots from Zarah Prasad.

A big congratulations to all of the winners and well done to all who participated throughout the two Sunday's.

Last Thursday our Groundstaff got to have some fun, setting up the course in weird and whacky ways for our Greenskeepers Revenge Day.

Every hole had something different, as members did their best to tame the course in an ambrose competition. For the first time, our Superintendent Nathan Turner wasn't a part of the winning team on a glorious sunny afternoon.

Sue Berean, Siobain Cornick, Angela Madden & Betty Savona (pictured) managed to put together a fantastic score to rise to the occasion, navigating hoops, stakes, big holes, half holes, machinery obstacles and everything in between to emerge as the victors on the day.

A great day at our Club, as we thank our Superintendent Nathan Turner and his team for everything they do for our golf course.

The 2026 GPL Season finished with the annual Charles Latrobe Medal Presentation Night, celebrating our Team Premiership, Team Knockout & Team Survivor champions, marvelling at the success and consistency of our All Latrobe Team before counting down to the winner of the 2026 Charles Latrobe Medal.

A fantastic night at the Club, with over 100 members attending the evening to celebrate what was a fantastic season. We congratulate The Aviary on an incredible debut season, the 2026 GPL Premiership Champions with a 184-177 defeat of the ladder leaders for the year the All Night Chemists.

The All Night Chemists were not deprived of success however, winning the Team Knockout and the Team Survivor in an almost perfect Triple Crown year.

All-time Games Record Holder and Leading Overall Points Scorer in the GPL, Rowland Ryan, captured his first Charles Latrobe Medal after 327 games & over 10,800 points scored in his career. His fantastic season was enough to win by 3 votes in the count, as well as securing his third successive All Latrobe shirt.

Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to all members who participated in the competition. See you in 2027!

Congratulations to Ali Dogan, who has produced a superb two-round performance to be crowned the 2026 Captain’s Cup Board Event Champion.

After opening with an excellent 38 Stableford points in Round 1, Ali elevated his game even further in the final round, returning a brilliant 42 points to finish with an outstanding 80-point total across the two rounds. His consistency, composure and ability to perform under pressure saw him emerge as a deserving winner of one of the Club’s premier honour board events.

While the leaderboard was tightly contested behind him, Ali’s final tally saw him finish five points clear of his nearest challenger, Tom Robson, who backed up his Round 1 leading performance to secure second place on 75 points. Jack Perrin rounded out the podium, finishing third with 74 points after another strong showing over the two rounds.

The depth of the field was remarkable, with just five points separating second place from eighteenth place, highlighting how fiercely contested the event was over the last two Saturdays. However, despite the close battle among the chasing pack, Ali proved a class above, pulling away from the field to record a convincing victory.

Following the completion of play, Ali was presented with the Captain’s Cup Trophy by Club Captain Greg McLeod. Greg also enjoyed a solid tournament of his own, finishing in ninth place with 71 points, capping off a successful championship for both the competition and the Club.

The Captain’s Cup once again showcased the strength and depth of competition at Latrobe Golf Club, with quality golf, close finishes and outstanding sportsmanship on display throughout the event. Congratulations to Ali Dogan on a memorable victory and to all competitors who contributed to another highly successful Captain’s Cup championship.

There are good shots, there are great shots, and then there are the shots that golfers spend a lifetime dreaming about.

Congratulations to Tom Robson, who achieved his first-ever hole-in-one today on the 1st hole in spectacular fashion!

Standing on the tee of the 160-metre opening hole, Tom unleashed what can only be described as a golfing work of art. The ball set off on a gentle baby draw, climbing high into the winter sky before tracking beautifully toward the flag. It landed softly on the green, took a couple of reassuring hops, and then, as those watching held their breath, disappeared from sight.

Straight into the cup.

Cue the celebrations!

For every golfer, a hole-in-one is the ultimate thrill – part skill, part nerve, and perhaps just a touch of golfing magic. To make it even more special, this was Tom’s very first ace, a moment he will remember every time he stands on the 1st tee.

While many golfers spend decades chasing that elusive perfect shot, Tom can now proudly join the exclusive hole-in-one club. And what a way to do it – a soaring draw, a soft landing, and a dramatic finish that looked like it had been scripted by the golfing gods themselves.

Well played, Tom. The drinks might be on you, but the bragging rights are yours forever!

What a wonderful day at our Women's Invitational! 💐

It was a pleasure welcoming so many new women to our club and sharing everything that makes our community so special. We hope everyone enjoyed the day, made new connections, and felt right at home.

July 2026 Monthly Medal Results

There was no stopping David J. Madigan in the July 2026 Monthly Medal, producing a superb and consistent performance to take out the event with an impressive +8 score in the Par competition.

What made David’s round particularly remarkable was his consistency. He posted +4 on the front nine and +4 on the back nine, demonstrating complete control of his game from the opening tee shot to the final putt. While many players experienced swings in momentum throughout the day, David’s steady play proved the benchmark for the field.

A tightly contested chasing pack finished some distance behind on +3, with Rhys Owen, Jeremy Rodgers, Rowland Ryan, Ron Spratt and Jaran McKay all sharing the runner-up honours in the medal competition after strong rounds of their own. Despite their efforts, none could quite match Madigan’s outstanding five-point winning margin.

The victory also created one of the day’s most memorable moments during presentations. In a rare change of roles, David found himself on the receiving end rather than the presenting end of the Monthly Medal ceremony. With David usually the man handing out the prizes, it was his brother Greg Madigan who had the honour of presenting the medal this time around. To make the occasion even sweeter, David was more than happy to relieve Greg of a few dollars during the day’s competition before accepting the trophy from him afterwards!

As if a Monthly Medal victory was not enough, David’s exceptional form has also seen him secure the coveted position of Number 1 Qualifier for the Don Dunstan Memorial Trophy Knockout Competition. Entering the knockout series from the top spot will make him a player everyone will be watching closely in the weeks ahead.

Congratulations to David J. Madigan on an outstanding July Monthly Medal victory and on earning the top qualifying position for the Don Dunstan Memorial Trophy. If his current form is any indication, there may be plenty more silverware heading his way before the season is out.
