What a Race! The 2026 Peninsula Downwind Classic saw 36 competitors in ocean skis, spec skis, SUPs and outriggers tackle the tricky SW conditions from Frankston to Mordialloc.

Congratulations to all who took part, and a huge thank you to co-hosts MP Paddlers (Surf ski/ocean racing ski/kayak), the Race Committee, water safety, and all the volunteers and trailer drivers for their work in making our last race of the season such a great success. Special shout out to Mordialloc Sailing Club for welcoming us post race.

FINAL COURSE CONFIRMATION for the Peninsula Downwind Classic!

We are ON for Saturday Frankston to Mordialloc (long course) and Patterson River to Mordialloc (short course)!

Forecast is reasonable with 15 knots plus from the south. Great intermediate course with enough in it for experienced paddlers to have a red hot race.

It will be expected that all paddlers are across this info particularly the requirements to enable GPS tracking through the Webscorer app on your phone. If you don’t have this working we will not check you in to start (support to set up available at registrations but pls test beforehand).

Also reminder to please familiarise yourself with the course to be independent with navigation. Landmarks will be provided in the briefing but every paddler needs to be familiar with the course/wind and make their own judgements.

Presentation afterwards will be at Mordialloc Yacht Club (with thanks) and there are heaps of prizes from our sponsors REVO Kayak Australia, Meek Paddles, Vaikobi.

NEWS JUST IN!
The Peninsula Downwind Classic preliminary course is now out.

Conditions are looking perfect for intermediate paddlers and up this Saturday 7 March for a 3pm start. 15+ knots southerly which will see you downwind from Frankston to Mordialloc (long course) or Patterson River to Mordialloc (short course).

Hoping to have an indoor location for presentations at the finish.
Should be a great race!

Final course confirmation will be announced on Thursday 5th.

A great day of competitive racing - fantastic to see such an inclusive and diverse group of paddlers and craft attend!
With 70 participants aged 19 - 78 years and a vision impaired paddler - paddling is a sport for all.

UPDATE: Three days to race time in Corio Bay Geelong!
Current mild and dry forecast looking great with winds predicted west to south- westerly of around 8 -10 knots.

Course will be set on the day to optimise the best conditions, and the downwind leg. See map below - note this is indicative - all paddlers will follow an east west course anticlockwise from Cunningham pier on left towards Point Henry with finish at swimming enclosure.

Short distance 8km - one lap
Long distance 16km - two laps

What a race! And the inaugural 2025 PV Mentone Classic is wrap. Huge well done to ALL paddlers who turned out to brave windy conditions this morning for a 7 or 14km northerly loop.

Course confirmation: this Sunday 19 October for the inaugural Mentone Classic.

The forecast northerly is perfect for the course shown below. Paddlers will head up under the sheltered cliffs of Beaumaris and use the lee of the land heading north before running back home downwind.

14 km racers will turn at the yachting mark next to the yellow pylon at the lower carpark at Half Moon Bay (course in blue)
7 km racers will turn at mark near Beaumaris Yacht Club (course in orange)

Enter with confidence - on water safety will be present, and paddlers will be GPS tracked using webscorer mobile app on their phones.
