What a night at the 2026 Australian Sailing Victoria Awards!

It was a great night celebrating the outstanding achievements from our community. From sailors and coaches to officials, volunteers and clubs we were able to showcase the amazing people and organisations making sailing in Victoria stronger both on and off the water.

Congratulations to this years awards winners and those that were recognised as finalists.

Thank you to Dee Mason our incredible MC and Sandringham Yacht Club for hosting us once again!

2026 Victorian Lifetime Achievement Award!

Congratulations Emma Morris, 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

Emma has spent over 34 years shaping Somers Yacht Club, from a competitive Hobie Catamaran career including national podiums and a Worlds top-10 finish, to 15 years as Sailing School Principal rebuilding the Discover Sailing Centre and mentoring students into instructors. Beyond training sailors, she's revived club traditions like the Hot Somers Ball, launched youth events, and grown SYC's social media presence, a combination of competitive success, mentorship and community building that makes her a truly deserving Lifetime Achievement recipient.

2026 Victorian Club of the Year (Category A)!

Congratulations Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, 2026 Club of the Year (Category A) recipient.

Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron's structured approach to membership, from Tackers and Discover Sailing through to mentoring and crew matching delivered a standout 2025-26, with 68 keelboat and 78 off-the-beach races, eight regattas drawing 850 competitors, and a fleet-doubling season hosting the largest RS Aero regatta in the Southern Hemisphere. With the RS Aero Worlds and a 75th anniversary regatta ahead, BYS is proving that strong growth and genuine community go hand in hand. It's a club culture where every new sailor's journey is supported, and every milestone is a shared win.

2026 Victorian Club of the Year (Category B)!

Congratulations Bendigo Yacht Club, 2026 Club of the year (Category B) recipient.

Bendigo Yacht Club delivered a coordinated program connecting community engagement, training, social participation and communications into a clear pathway from first contact to membership, driving membership growth of 32% in just one year. The standout initiative was Fridays by the Lake, a four-week community program offering free, supervised sailing, paddleboarding and canoeing that attracted 160 participants, including 61 newcomers. This was backed by growing sailing school enrolments, expanded social and novelty sailing options, and strong events like the Ice Breaker Regatta and ILCA Regional Championships.

2026 Victorian Discover Sailing Centre of the Year!

Congratulations Davey’s Bay Yacht Club, 2026 Discover Sailing Centre of the Year recipient.

Davey's Bay Yacht Club has built Discover Sailing into the club's central recruitment engine, creating a genuine pathway from Tiny Tackers and Tackers 1-3 through Green Fleet/Learn to Race and into regular club racing, backed by strong 2025-26 numbers. The club converted new memberships directly from these programs this season, placing emphasis on nurturing long-term family engagement over quick conversions. Its instructor pipeline is entirely home-grown, with every Assistant Instructor having come up through the club's own junior pathway, strengthened this year by training that helped more female volunteers move toward accreditation. DBYC has created a genuinely self-sustaining cycle turning first-time sailors into the club's future instructors and leaders.

2026 Victorian Female Sailor of the Year!

Congratulations Laura Harding, 2026 Female Sailor of the Year recipient.

Laura has continued to cement her place among Australia's leading Olympic sailors, campaigning towards LA 2028 in the 49erFX class with a season that combined outstanding results and remarkable resilience. She claimed silver at French Olympic Week, backed up wins at the Australian 49erFX Championships in both 2025 and 2026 and at Sail Melbourne, and represented Australia at consecutive World Championships in Italy and France. All this while juggling a university degree and pushing through a broken leg at the 2026 49erFX World Championships. Alongside her own campaign, she coaches junior, youth and adult sailors at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, making her a truly deserving recipient of the Female Sailor of the Year Award!

2026 Victorian Male Sailor of the Year!

Congratulations Mark Bulka, 2026 Male Sailor of the Year recipient.

Mark has had an outstanding year across multiple classes, headlined by a silver medal at the Contender World Championships and Australian, Italian and Dutch Contender Championship titles. His versatility shone through too, finishing 3rd at the Aero Nationals while also sitting at Australian #1 and World #12 in the Star Sailors League rankings. Beyond his own results, he gives extensive voluntary time to coaching, running programs at McCrae Yacht Club and mentoring emerging talent alongside serving on the McCrae YC Training Committee and continuing to lead within the Contender class as a regatta organiser and sail development expert. His combination of elite performance, versatility and generosity as a coach and mentor make him a deserving recipient of Male Sailor of the Year!

2026 Victorian Para Sailor of the Year!

Congratulations Neil Patterson, 2026 Para Sailor of the Year recipient.

Neil has had a season of consistent excellence in the 2.4mR class, claiming 1st at the 2025 Australian Championship held alongside Sail Melbourne, and backing that up with a 2nd place finish at the 2026 Championship in Perth. Neil's sustained success in the class over the years has been a genuine inspiration making him a deserving recipient of Para Sailor of the Year!

2026 Victorian Noakes Youth Sailor of the Year!

Congratulations Acklin Stent, 2026 Noakes Youth Sailor of the year recipient.

Acklin has firmly established himself as Victoria's leading Optimist sailor, finishing as the top-placed Victorian at the national championships in consecutive years. He built on that form throughout the season, improving from 3rd to 2nd overall at the VIODA Victorian & Open Championship, finishing top Victorian at the NSW Youth Championships, and taking outright wins at Sail Melbourne and the multi-class Top of the Lake regatta. Off the water he earnt Mornington Yacht Club's Achievement & Sportsmanship Award in 2026 for his work ethic, coachability and the maturity he brings to both racing and mentoring younger sailors. His combination of consistent podium-level results and genuine sportsmanship make him a truly deserving recipient of Youth Sailor of the Year.
