AContra are passionate about Latin dance- in particular anything Cuban and their first dance-love, Rueda de Casino. Trained by Cuban dancers at home and in Cuba, Maxine and Akshar pride themselves on teaching authentic Cuban style in a way that is clear, vibrant, accessible and of course fun in an Aussie context! They believe everyone CAN dance and strive to create an atmosphere that is welcoming
for new dancers whilst still challenging and developing experienced dancers. Their weekly classes and performance teams focus on Cuban Salsa (Casino), Rueda de Casino, lead and follow technique, musicality and timing as well as floor craft to name a few. Examples of Son, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Afro-Cuban, Mambo and other Cuban styles are regularly included in their classes to showcase the beauty and variety of Cuban dance and Music. Maxshar coined the term ‘Ruedetiquette” (the top 5 tips to be a fabulous Rueda dancer) and have spread this and the all over Australia, New Zealand and beyond. However, teaching in their hometown and growing the local population of Casineros is what they love the best!
