Really proud of the way our juniors trained today.

The biggest thing for us isn’t just who wins the rounds. It’s the teamwork, the attitude and the willingness to keep putting in consistent effort, even when things get hard.
They pushed each other, supported each other and kept working.
That’s how you build good competitors, but more importantly, good teammates.
Keep showing up. Keep working. Keep getting better.

Fundamentals aren’t just for beginners.

Hip escapes might be one of the first movements you learn in Jiu Jitsu, but being able to create space, move your hips and recover position is something you’ll use at every level.

We keep the basics in because the basics keep showing up.

Get good at the movements.
Then get good at using them under pressure.

A moment years in the making.

Friday night, Kirk received his black belt.

A black belt isn’t awarded for simply spending enough time on the mats. It represents years of consistency, sacrifice, growth and continuing to show up through every challenge.

Kirk has earned this—not only through his skill, but through the person and teammate he has become along the way.

The night was also a huge milestone for M9A, with eight new blue belts and nine of our teens earning promotions.

Congratulations to everyone who levelled up. Enjoy the moment, but remember—the belt changes, and so does the standard expected of you.

A proud night for our entire team.

Coaching isn’t just about what happens during the match.

It’s the weeks of preparation, the hard conversations, the standards you refuse to lower and making sure your athletes know you believe in them—even when they’re struggling to believe in themselves.

When they step onto the mat, all you can do is trust the work and be there for them until the end.

Make moves, not excuses.

The standard has to apply to the coach too.
I ask our competitors to prepare properly, step onto the mat under pressure and give everything they have until the match is over.
So I have to be willing to do the same.
Another Australian Championship tested. Another silver medal earned. I’m proud of the result, but I’m not satisfied with it.
There are lessons to take, weaknesses to fix and more work to do.
That’s competition. It shows you exactly where you are—then gives you the choice to make excuses or make improvements.

Back to work.

Make moves, not excuses.

A big day for our M9A juniors at the Australian Nationals 🇦🇺

Plenty of medals came home, but what mattered most was seeing them step onto the mats, test themselves and represent our team with courage.

We’re proud of every performance, but even prouder of the work, growth and resilience behind it.

Thank you to all the parents and families who continue to support these kids and give them the opportunity to chase their goals.

Strong performances. Valuable lessons. More work to do.

This is M9A. 🖤❤️

Day 1 of Nationals.

Stepped onto the mats, stayed composed and got the job done.

Competition has a way of exposing everything—the work you’ve done, the gaps you still have and how you respond when things don’t go exactly to plan.

Grateful to still be out here testing myself, representing M9A and Australian Elite Team leading from the front.

Make moves, not excuses. 🦅

Day 1 of Nationals done. 🥇🥈

Proud of everyone who stepped onto the mats today, but just as proud of the people who showed up to coach, support, calm nerves and stand behind their teammates.

Some great results, some hard lessons and plenty for us to build on.

This is what being part of a team looks like.

Now we reset and get ready to go again tomorrow.

Knowing more techniques doesn’t always mean you understand Jiu Jitsu better.

Real skill is recognising the problem in front of you and solving it in the right order.

If you’re in danger, survive.
If you’re trapped, escape.
If the position is unstable, connect.
Before you attack, establish control.

The submission comes last for a reason.

At M9A, we’re not teaching students to simply repeat movements. We want them to understand what’s happening, make decisions under pressure and adapt when the situation changes.

Because techniques without context are easily forgotten.

Understanding the game is what builds lasting skill.

Understand the problem. Make the right decision. Trust the process.
