Tennis Star Academy welcomes Paul Vassallo as new Director of Coaching

Tennis Star Academy is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Vassallo as its new Director of Coaching. Paul joins the Academy with a distinguished track record in player development and elite coaching, most recently serving as Director of Talent at Tennis Australia, a role he held since 2020.

In his appointment at Tennis Australia, Paul was the driving force behind the implementation and development of national development initiatives such as National Development Squads, Super 10s, Zone Squads, the National Development Program, National/International Tours & Camps, and state-wide National Development Programs aimed at strengthening junior pathways and supporting private coaches across Australia. His focus on building equitable and accessible opportunities for emerging talent has helped standardise and accelerate support offerings for players across all states.

Paul’s coaching journey spans more than two decades, with deep roots in the private sector. He has run programs across Hot Shots Tennis, ITF Juniors, and college level players throughout Victoria . His expertise was further recognised when he received the 2018 Tennis Coaches Australia Victorian Club Coach of the Year award.
Paul is a Tennis Australia High Performance Coach, and former Tennis Australia Coach Developer having lead the Club Professional Coaching Accreditation course for Tennis Australia in Victoria.

Sport Star Academy Expands Tennis Star Academy Franchise with Nationwide Pickleball Programs 🚨

Sport Star Academy is excited to announce the expansion of its Tennis Star Academy (TSA) franchise, which will introduce Pickleball programs across 50 new franchise locations over the next two years. As one of the fastest-growing racket sports in Australia, Pickleball will offer players of all ages the chance to develop their skills in a fun, fast-paced and professional environment.

Tennis Star Academy was originally established to provide young players with the opportunity to enhance their tennis skills in a structured and enjoyable setting. Its term-based, all year round coaching curriculum focuses on all aspects of the game, providing a progressive learning experience. Now, TSA is capitalising on the world’s fastest growing sport Pickleball, which has seen a surge in popularity across Australia.

Recent data from Pickleball Australia highlights a 50% increase in participation over the past two years, with over 10,000 active players and more than 300 dedicated Pickleball courts across the country. The sport’s unique blend of tennis, badminton, and table tennis elements makes it an ideal introduction to racket sports, particularly for those new to the game. Smaller courts, lighter paddles, and a lower-bouncing ball offer an accessible, fast-learning experience for all.

The expansion of TSA to include Pickleball will cater to both youth and adult players. Each of the 50 new franchise locations will offer comprehensive coaching as well as “social play” programs for aspiring Pickleball players, with the same professional guidance and performance tracking as TSA’s existing tennis programs.

“We’re excited to embrace the Pickleball wave and expand our reach,” said Peter Nikolakopoulos, Founder and Global CEO of Sport Star Academy. “With the sport’s surging popularity, adding Pickleball to our programs allows us to grow with the game and provide another fun way to develop essential skills. It’s also a great introduction to tennis.”

Tennis Star Academy Franchisees will benefit from Sport Star Academy’s award-winning systems and support, including marketing resources, a detailed coaching curriculum and access to a broader network of franchisees across multiple sports within the SSA network.

Today they have been awarded Junior school colors and clinched the Year 5 & 6 Tennis trophy at Haileybury College - Castlefield. What an incredible feat for their grade!
