The High Performance team at Pioda has had quite the term to start the year! We tested the athletic abilities of over 300 students across 4 schools, and provided these schools and academies with valuable information to help guide their physical preparation programs throughout the year.

One of our four testing stations involves the use of VALD ForceDecks. These are an amazing tool for us in all areas of our practice, but provide great insight into the vertical power capabilities of our student, team sport, and individual athletes.

There’s more to Change of Direction training than shuffles, curves, and cuts. So much of what happens on the football pitch requires players to manoeuvre their body or running path while maintaining as much speed as possible.

The Sprint-Backpedal-Sprint drill teaches athletes exactly that - the ability to face another direction, while keeping their current speed and maintaining the same path of movement.

Players who can make these changes without losing speed create separation from opponents, win duels, and arrive at balls first.

Meet Sixto.
 
At 53 years old, Sixto came to Pioda looking for a way to restore the damage done by a stroke, affecting his right side.
 
Despite his unfortunate circumstances, Sixto’s spirit has never faltered. Working closely with Exercise Physiologist Steven Rocca since September, he completes 4 sessions per week working on fine gross motor skill development, full-body strength and endurance, and coordination and motor patterning.
 
As a result of his motivation, commitment, and hard work, Sixto’s latest outcome measures showed phenomenal progress in only 3 months, including:
• Improvements on all strength-endurance measures (upper body, lower body, and core)
• Improvements in timed fine gross motor skill tests
• A complete 30-second bicep curl test (where range previously prevented a single bicep curl)
• Improved single leg balance
With his dedication to his rehab, there’s no telling what Sixto can achieve. We’re excited for him to continue making leaps and bounds with Pioda!

Three years ago, Mya had never stepped foot in a gym.
No experience, no idea where to start. Fast forward to today, and she’s absolutely thriving! 💪

From learning the basics to now smashing her goals, Mya’s journey shows what consistency and commitment can do.
She’s now hitting a 35kg Back Squat (3RM), jogging 1km, and even correcting her PE teacher’s technique at school (we love that one 😎).

Training twice a week, Mya has built real strength, not just in the gym, but in her mindset too.

We’re so proud of how far she’s come and can’t wait to see what she achieves next! 🙌
