During 1989 the Hawthorn City Council & the Hawthorn Football Cluib worked together to provide an Australian Rules skills clinic and a lightening premiership for people with an intellectual disability. Seeing the amount of interest generated, a steering committee was established and a grant was

obtained from the AFL Foundation to establish an on-going, regulat competiton. By March, 1991 Football Integration Development Association was formally launch. Victorian FIDA Football League is a strong and vibrant football competition for people with disability in Victoria, with over 500 players from across the state. There are currently 4 metropolitan divisions. 1 Western Regional Conference and 1 Northern Regional Conference.
