Through exclusive coaching, dance history and hands-on learning with artists who worked alongside Nureyev, our students are preserving and celebrating the legacy of one of ballet's greatest icons.

The Australian Ballet School is honoured, through our close connection with The Australian Ballet, which shares a crucial historic association with Rudolf Nureyev, to be one of six schools internationally engaging and contributing to this Program, which includes:

Our Teacher Training Program has been designed to support educators at all stages of their careers, as well as dancers pursuing a pathway into teaching.

Through flexible, part-time study, participants engage with artistic excellence, professional practice, scientific and psychological integrity, and evolving approaches to dance education.

The Australian Ballet’s first Indigenous dancer has drawn on both her First Nations heritage and her classical training to become a unique artist.

Like many ballet dancers, Ella Havelka can trace her fascination with the art form back to an early encounter with Swan Lake. Her mother Janna decided, for no particular reason, to borrow an old VHS of the production from the library. “I saw movement with a story, a purpose,” says Ella. “I thought, ‘I want to try that!’”

The Australian Ballet School was proud to be part of the recent IFAA 2026 Conference in Melbourne, sharing their expertise and skills with anatomists from all over the globe.

As part of Dr Sue Mayes AM’s presentation “Fouettés on Phalanges: Anatomy Embodied and Applied”, students Emmaline, Ramita, Amos and Darcy participated in a class-on-stage demonstration led by Artistic Teacher, Jacki Clark.

The session explored the fascinating connection between anatomy, movement and the demands of ballet, bringing science and artistry together on stage.
