“Perhaps the best pitcher’s duel I can remember at an Australian national championship.”

Those are the words from play-by-play commentator Luke Eisenhaur, who has called five Little League Nationals and multiple Australian Youth Championships / Senior League Tournament after watching Beau Price and Archie Griffiths go to work at Little League this morning.

Beau Price tossed the tournament’s first complete game shutout, firing 6.0 shutout innings with no runs, three hits, no walks and seven strikeouts for the Central Firebirds.

Archie Griffiths was equally as impressive in his effort for the Melbourne Rangers. He went 5.0 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks 10 strikeouts and just one run.

Final score: Firebirds 1 def Melbourne Rangers 0. No relief pitchers required.

The players met up after the game for a commemorative photo in a sign of respect.

The result throws Pool A into all kinds of chaos.

OMG THE MELBOURNE RANGERS 🤠 😱

The Melbourne Rangers had one heck of an opening day at the Little League Championships.

Game 1 - A 12-6 win over Brisbane North, a charter who has won two of the last four national Little League titles. Patrick Lane’s three-run Little League inside-the-parker was a defining moment.

Game 2 - A gutsy 1-0 win over Cronulla Black. Jayden Samuel and Patrick Lane combined for the shutout.

12 different players had hits today in a true team effort.

They sit alone at the top of Pool B with a perfect 2-0 record, setting themselves up nicely for a nice tournament run.
