Thirteen years ago, I registered a new account on GPVWC SimRacing to get started with a brand new hobby I knew nothing about: Simracing. I decided to jump in at the deep end and submitted a team entry for Formula Challenge for the 2013 season.
It was the beginning of the team now known as Edge Esports, and most importantly the start of an awesome adventure.
An adventure that would take us to different Leagues, Series and events. From our humble beginnings in GPVWC FC and SC towards GPVWC SL, FSR WC and on-site events such as Mercedes AMG eRacing, F1 eSports, ESL Racing series MAPFRE and the initial Lemans 24H Virtual during covid. The attached picture summarizes only our GPVWC results, but there have been many more amazing races and memories outside this great league. All of these have been a blast and truly amazing to experience together with a fantastic group of people and drivers. We’ve competed with some of the best in the sport, met and collaborated with real racing teams and drivers, won races, live events and championships, and that is something to be proud off, for everyone that has ever been involved.
One series has been a constant throughout our history, and that has been GPVWC SuperLeague.
It was already our primary focus prior to our rebranding to Edge Esports in 2018, and has been ever since, even after the team scaled back their other engagements to come back to its essence: GPVWC SL. It seems only fitting that it’s where our story ends. Last Thursday, Edge Esport’s cars drove their last race for the foreseeable future. There will not be an Edge Esports entry for next season, so it’s time to say thank you, farewell and goodbye.
Our adventure has been experienced together with a truly mindboggling amount of enthusiastic and talented individuals: Primary drivers, Reserve Drivers, Emergency Drivers, Test Drivers, Engineers, Technical Managers, Marketing Managers, Skin Artists, Set-up Magicians, Team Managers, Fans, Adversaries, Critics, etc..…. and it’s those people that truly deserve our deepest thanks for shaping what Edge was and has become. I’m not going to attempt naming everyone that has contributed to the Legacy and History of the team, because there have been just so many that have given us the honour of driving (or supporting) our Blue-White-Gold racingbeasts that it would be impossible not to miss some. But If have ever sat in a virtual EDGE cockpit, or you’ve been part of the team in some way or another, be it on the track or off it, you know I’m talking to you: “THANK YOU! You’ve been awesome!
