The Balwyn Blazers Basketball Club has more than 140 junior boys and girls teams ranging from U8s-U21s playing in the Eastern Districts Junior Basketball League

What an incredible opportunity for our U13 girls!

South East Melbourne Phoenix Head Coach, Josh King, spent Monday evening delivering a coaches’ clinic facilitated by the EDJBA at Boroondara Sports Complex. Our U13 girls were lucky enough to participate working with Josh to demonstrate drills to coaches for their learning.

Josh went over his background, experience, passion for basketball, and dedicated the session to defensive techniques. He identified critical defence skills that are often overlooked, and suggested problem solving strategies in difficult defensive matchups. He was engaging and worked great with the kids, demonstrating his ability to coach and educate a range of people.

Thank you to Josh King and Paul Lankford for organising and delivering the clinic, and our DOC Lucas Donnar for getting our girls involved in the event. 👏

REP TRYOUTS ARE COMING. ARE YOU READY? 🔥🏀

Rep Ready starts this Friday, and spots are limited.

This isn’t just another basketball session. It’s six weeks specifically designed to help players understand what’s expected at representative level — and give them the opportunity to learn from coaches with genuine high-level basketball experience.

Players will be coached by:
🏀 A Big V Youth Women’s coach
🏀 A coach with Big V and international playing experience

We’ll work through skills, game concepts, scrimmage situations, tryout preparation and the little details coaches notice when selecting teams.

And an important point:

You do NOT have to be a domestic player trying rep for the first time.

If you already play representative basketball, this is still a great opportunity to get additional coaching, hear different perspectives and add more knowledge to your game before the new season.

6 Fridays. $115. Maximum 20 players.

TEAM SELECTIONS: It’s not about being in the best team, but about being in the right team.

Our new General Manager, John King, explains the selection process for our domestic basketball club.

John is an ex-athlete, business owner, and parent of two young ballers. He’s been hard at work already at the Club and we look forward to seeing more of his expertise in action. 🏀🌟👌

🏀 TEAM SELECTION WEEK IS ALMOST HERE! 🔥

Ready to pull on the red and white? Team Selection Week for our 2026/27 Summer Season starts next week, and we can't wait to welcome both returning and new players to the court.

Our goal is simple: place every player in the team where they'll be challenged, supported and enjoy their basketball the most.

Whether you're joining the Blazers for the first time or returning for another season, we're looking forward to seeing you.

Every great junior basketball club runs on passionate volunteers.

We're currently looking for Age Group Coordinators to support our players, coaches and families throughout the season.

This isn't an admin-heavy role, and you don't need to be a basketball expert.

It's about:
❤️ Welcoming new families
🤝 Supporting coaches and team managers
🏀 Helping with player grading and team selection
💬 Keeping communication flowing across your age group

You'll be supported every step of the way by our Director of Coaching, President, General Manager, Age Group Manager and an experienced team of fellow AGCs.

If you're already at the courts most Saturdays and want to give back to a club that's given so much to our kids, we'd love to hear from you.
