When Your Revenue Doubles. But So Does Your Stress.

I have watched this happen more times than I can count. Twenty two years running PSM. Six years building The O8 with Steph. Same pattern, different business name.

The owner lands the bigger client. The one that was supposed to fix it.

Revenue goes up. The bank app still gets refreshed at 11pm on a Sunday.

Here is what no one tells you. Revenue without a cash system just moves more money through a broken structure faster. That is the whole mechanic.

If the structure leaks at $400K, it leaks harder at $800K. The leak does not care how much you pour in.

I have sat with owners doing $1.2M who could not pay themselves properly. P&L showed profit. Bank account showed panic. Both were telling the truth.

Profit on paper and cash in the bank are two different things. The P&L tells you what happened last month. It does not tell you what you can spend on Thursday.

Twenty two years running PSM and I have watched this play out the same way every time. A strong revenue month ends with payroll anxiety. A big invoice lands and disappears inside a week. The numbers look good. The Monday morning bank check still feels like dread.

More revenue does not close that gap. It widens it.

Most service business owners I work with have a qualified accountant. Almost none of them know what to do with their cash this week.

I have watched this play out hundreds of times over twenty two years running PSM.

Owners doing two hundred thousand to three million in revenue assume that having an accountant means their cash is being managed. That someone qualified is watching the numbers and will flag a problem before it becomes a crisis.

Your accountant is reporting on what already happened. They make sure the tax return is accurate and the BAS is lodged. Exactly what you hired them to do.

Nobody is looking at what is coming due next Tuesday. Nobody is checking whether the receivables will clear before payroll. Nobody is telling you what the cash position looks like in three weeks.

Twenty two years inside a service business taught me this the hard way. A P&L can confirm a solid month while $18K of that month is still sitting unpaid in someone else's accounts. Payroll is Thursday. The report does not care.

I have watched service business owners pull a great month, look at the balance on a Tuesday afternoon, and still feel sick. Profitable on paper. Panicked in practice.
