This is a hard one for us to post...

If you knew, you knew Ryan has been battling stage 4 bowel cancer for over 2 years. The last month has been a whirlwind of ups and downs, and two nights ago we almost lost him.

Ryan's love, dedication, and support to the local hockey community and our academy has been one that will go down in history. If you wish to help his family, there is a page that is helping to ease the burden of what the next few months looks like.

Will Sorensen – Hockey Athlete

Meet Will Sorensen Whittlesea Local Hockey Athlete – our 2026 athlete scholarship recipient! 🏑

Will’s hockey story starts with his Nana – a Victoria Masters legend who represented the sport for over 20 years. At four years old, inspired by watching his Nana play, Will picked up a stick, given to him by his Nan, for the first time. That moment changed everything.

Now 15, Will represents Greensborough Hockey Club, and his track record is impressive: 2023 Grand Finals winner (juniors and seniors), 2022 Under 13 Emerging Talent Victoria Academy, 2024 Under 14 High Performance Victoria Academy, and currently Under 16 High Performance Victoria Academy. In 2025, he made his debut for Vic League 1 (Men’s/Seniors) – the highest division at his club.

Will competed in Perth during November at the Under 16 Gryphon International Cup with Cirello Coaching Academy – one of only three Australian teams playing against Japan, Korea and Malaysia.

His goal: represent Victoria at the 2026 Under 16 National Championships. His focus: fitness, strength and injury prevention.

This is what legacy and dedication look like!
