Western Australia has followed in Victoria's footsteps and released guidelines relating to the remediation of clandestine drug labs.

With the number of drug labs being found in Western Australian homes increasing in the past few years, there is concern for the health of people who unknowingly live in homes where a drug lab has previously existed.

The Victorian Department of Health has released the ‘Clandestine Laboratory Remediation: Environmental Health Practice Note’ to provide Environmental Health officers (EHOs) in Victoria with a practical blueprint of how to deal with clandestine drug labs in their jurisdiction.

The new clan lab data report for 2010-2011 has been released, and it shows that:
- 703 labs have been detected by police in Australia in the last year
- the majority of clan labs continue to be found in residential areas
- there as been a 63% increase in the use of the Nazi/Birch m**hod (using anhydrous ammonia) for producing m**h
- QLD is still the state with the highest number of m**h labs with WA not far behind.

This is an issue that is rife in WA but it's a good sign that they are taking positive steps, such as introducing mandatory jail terms for anyone who lets a child live in a m**h lab
