“Jess, I know what I need to do. I just need you in my corner.”
A conversation with a current client recently really stayed with me.
She's a second-time mum, and I'd actually helped her with sleep with her first baby too.
But this time around, she told me that sleep was overwhelming her. The thought of trying to analyse everything, make changes and manage it all while also parenting a toddler was simply too much.
So she chose to go with the flow.
For seven months, she fed her baby to sleep, co-slept and held her baby — because that was what worked for them.
And there was absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Until eventually, it stopped working for her.
Her own sleep was suffering. She had very little time to herself. It was starting to affect her relationship, and she was feeling like she was constantly feeding, holding or sleeping with her baby.
When we had our consultation, she didn't need someone to tell her she'd been doing it all wrong.
She didn't need a rigid schedule or a list of rules.
She said:
“Jess, I know what I need to do. I just need you in my corner.”
And honestly, I think this is something that gets missed when we talk about sleep support.
You don't have to be completely lost to need support.
Sometimes you already know what you want to change. You just need someone who knows your child, understands the bigger picture and can help you work through the changes without carrying all of that mental load yourself.
Someone to reassure you.
Someone to help you know when to stay the course and when to tweak something.
Someone to bounce ideas off when you're second-guessing yourself at 2am.
Sometimes, you just need someone in your corner. 🤍
If you're wondering whether sleep support could help your family, you can start with a FREE Sleep Assessment Call. We'll talk through what's happening, what's been tried and what support could look like for you.
