My parents came down this weekend to see our new house and spend some time looking around the Goulburn Valley region we now call home. I had the pleasure of taking the old man out on the river yesterday morning, and he managed to catch his best cod ever. We decided to sit back soak a few baits in between casting lures, and this lovely 72cm fish ate a small block of cheddar and put up a great fight.

It's been so long since ive soaked some bait so it was a nice change of pace and great to spend some quality time with dad.

We also decided to keep this one to eat because dad hasnt had cod for years and I've never actually eaten it before. Growing up, dad would always ask me to bring home a nice legal cod from my cod fishing adventures but I never did, so I hope this makes up for it! The meat looks amazing, cooking it right now and cant wait to try it. 🍺

As some of you may have guessed by now, Perch Palm is back! My workshop is still not fully set-up, and I've been super busy with work and stuff around the new house, but I've been trying my best to put together some stock for a drop to kick things off again. I've mainly focused on HELLION 200s (pictuted) for the winter cod fisho's but I've also whipped up some other size HELLIONs, as well as some grubs and craws for winter Perch etc.

The drop is on Friday 24th April at 8:00pm AEST! Even more limited stock than usual so set an alarm 🍺👍

Perch fishing is definitely my medicine. It's been a good start to autumn so far. Only a few bites across the last 2 sessions but, 2 nice fish and a few smaller ones in betweem. This one took a little prototype i've been working on behind the scenes. Its the gudgeon i made last year with a subtle little paddle tail 👍

The first signs of cold weather always brings out the big reds 😍 I'm always grateful when I feel that first proper cool change of autumn in the air. A welcome relief after sweating and worrying about bush fires for the last 6 months! Now bring on some frosts!

Sunday afternoons done right! 🎣🌄✨️

Snuck out for a little fish yesterday afternoon. Fish were fussy but I managed to land one from a handful of short strikes. Not that it matters, it was just a magic Autumn afternoon. I even managed to catch a snap of the Aurora from the boat ramp.

It's been a good while since I've caught a golden of these proportions! From the new local and on a homemade bait just makes it even better 🙏 They really seem to like a fully transparent bait over a black at the moment. I guess thats what happens when you see 8 million black gulp a day!

I haven’t fished with anything but my own lures for years. Partly because my goal was to create as many lures as possible to suit my needs, and partly because when you’re making specific lures, they tend to dictate the kind of fishing you pursue.

Lately though, after moving back out to the country and fishing more often (and for reasons other than testing my designs etc.), I’ve been keen to support other local makers again.

When I saw had taken a big leap and started mass-producing these little “Monk” divers, I just had to grab a few. They look unreal. Great design, colours and a quality finish. Perfect timing too, as I’d just decided I needed some crash divers for banging timber in my local river.

Can’t wait to give them a swim once the bushfires in our area are cleared and it’s safe to get back out there.

On that note, a massive shout out to all the firefighters out there on the front lines. I feel so heartbroken for all those out there who have been affected. ❤️

Beautiful little blue nose to break in my home made 150mm Dark Perch jointed paddler. I made this bait in mid 2023 but I've only thrown it once before due to lack of cod fishing opportunities. The first time I threw it (Summer 2023) it got absolutely smashed by a good fish which came back a second time but never found the hooks. Since then ive been so keen to get one on it but the opportunities just never arose. Now that we've moved alot closer to some good cod water, I am looking forward to plenty more 👌 Hope everyone had a good Xmas 🍺

These fish are just so tough. They hit like a freight train and fight to the end. So stoked to run into a few this morning before the storm rolled in and soaked me. That little black and blue 5/8 spinnerbait I made up a few weeks ago definitely got the job done! Both fish absolutely belted it.

I'm absolutely stoked for with this ripper 116cm PB murray cod. Congratulations mate, such a beautiful healthy fish.

This beast was fooled by the big old HELLION 250 when nothing else was getting the job done.

The capture of this fish in its entirety features right at the crescendo of the
Film - 'Under the Surface'. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't already.

⬇️ Long, slightly emotional observation no one will read:

Watching that moment unravel was actually, honestly emotionally moving for me. Witnessing a bait that I created with my own hands having the power to turn the tide on a tough bite and truly make someones dream come true, is about as good as it gets as a lure maker.

And, it needs to be said because It's just the nature of the community at the moment. Whatever you think about livescope, to me, as a lure maker, it is truly a privelege to be able to observe and understand exactly how a fish responds to a particular design.

Watching that fish reject several other presentations only to turn and absolutely crush the HELLION as soon as it felt its presence, was a true testament to the value of the product I poured hundreds of hours of blood sweat and tears into designing and producing. Yes theyve caught plenty of fish before but that footage was truly invaluable to me.

Food for thought 🍺

Great start to the season for getting on the board with this lovely Mulwala chunk on onw of my Goron 95 hand made squarebills in 'Dark Perch' colour. These were my favourite bait to use last season in the skinny water, the cod absolutely crush em. So stoked to see this one, cheers Willis and nice work 👌
