Bored? Yes please. 🙌🏼
In our home, “I’m bored” meets excitement, curiosity and a little bit of faith in their capacity to figure it out.
Crafting, making, building, experimenting… these are the things I love offering my kids opportunities to do. Not for a polished piece of art at the end, but for the messy, unscripted, fully-autonomous play in the middle. 🎨🧱🔬
When they roll their eyes and tell me they’re bored, I get curious:
“What could you do about that?”
Suggestions are made. Craft boxes come out. Supplies are explored. And almost always, within minutes, they’re deep in something they chose themselves.
It’s in these moments they feel happy, proud and ok to get messy.
It’s also where the big learning lives:
💛 noticing feelings when things don’t turn out as hoped
đź’› trying again, tweaking, starting over
đź’› discovering they can create something from nothing but an idea
We’re learning to meet boredom not as a problem to fix, but as a golden opportunity to play, think and create with complete autonomy.
How do you meet the “I’m bored” moments in your home?
Do you lean into curiosity, offer options, or let them sit with it a little longer? I’d love to hear what works for your family. 💬
