DAY 11:

Our wonderful day by the beach eventually came to an end as the sun began to disappear over the horizon, transforming the sky into a spectacular palette of golden crimson. After another day of sun, swimming and rest, it was time to venture out once again.

We made our way into neighbouring Platamona, a familiar part of our coastal surroundings by now, where the evening air remained warm and inviting. We wandered slowly through the seaside streets and shops, taking in the atmosphere before settling once again for dinner- another long evening together by the Aegean.

This evening, however, carried a little more significance- it was Tia’s birthday. One of our long-serving Senior Dance Group students, and one of the Dream Team members who had made the journey with us to Greece as part of DESTINATION PATRIDA 2026, Tia was celebrating her birthday far from home, but very much surrounded by 'family'.

And that word 'family', has become increasingly difficult to separate from our experience of this tour.

From the beginning, our preference had been remarkably simple. Wherever possible, we wanted to sit together.
One long table.
Everyone together.
No small clusters scattered across separate tables, no dividing ourselves into groups, but a single table where everyone could talk, laugh, share food and remain part of the same conversation.

It might seem like a small detail, but small details often reveal the greatest things.

This tour has never been intended to be simply a professional excursion for a group of dancers.
Yes, we travelled as a dance school.
Yes, there were performances, rehearsals, costumes, schedules and responsibilities.
But DESTINATION PATRIDA has always aspired to something beyond that. The relationships, loyalty and bonds that exist within MANASIS are not manufactured for a tour; they are developed over years, through shared experiences, commitment, challenges, achievements and countless hours spent together.

And sometimes, something as simple as choosing to sit around one table allows that philosophy to reveal itself naturally.

On this particular evening, our table could not have been positioned more beautifully. At Το Γευστικό , we were seated directly on the pebble shoreline, with the stones beneath our feet and the Aegean only a few metres away. A gentle sea breeze moved through the evening air. The distant streetlights created a soft glow along the coastline, while the moonlight reflected across the calm surface of the water.

There was no need for elaborate surroundings.
The setting itself was enough.

One of the things we had continually noticed throughout our time in Greece was how understated so many of its tavernas and restaurants could be. Their signs and storefronts were often remarkably modest, almost as though they were deliberately refusing to compete for attention. There was little of the elaborate marketing and visual presentation that we are so accustomed to seeing elsewhere.

Perhaps they simply do not need it.

There is an evident confidence in the way many of these establishments operate- an understanding that patronage is earned through hospitality, personal engagement, consistency and the experience created once the customer sits at the table. The pride is placed in the food, the wine, the service and, above all, the relationship established between host and guest.

And then there was the food.

Our mixed grill platter arrived, among its generous selection of meats, with keftedes- those wonderfully familiar Greek meat patties. We had eaten countless variations of Greek food throughout the tour, but almost immediately after the first bite, there was a unanimous reaction: These were, to that point, the best keftedes we had eaten in Greece.

It is difficult to properly explain just how good the food had been throughout the journey. Every meal seemed to carry its own character, its own local influence and its own sense of place. But perhaps the secret was never simply the food.

It was the parea.

It was the people sitting around the table. The laughter and conversation. The warmth of the evening. The sea beside us. The moon above us. The breeze coming off the Aegean. The knowledge that we were together, celebrating one of our own, on the other side of the world.

All of those things become part of the meal. And somehow, wherever we went, the bar kept being raised- often when we least expected it.

The success of this tour was made possible through the generosity and support of numerous organisations, businesses and individuals. In recognition of their invaluable contributions, we established a tradition of offering a toast before each meal in honour of those who helped transform this dream into reality.

At this dinner, we raised our glasses in appreciation of our Annual Event Sponsor, Pirelli and Teddy Bee , expressing our sincere gratitude and wishing him and his team continued good health and prosperity.

With full stomachs, satisfied appetites and Tia’s birthday properly celebrated, there was only one place left to go: We were heading back to a place that had already become very familiar to us.

DAY 11:
ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE

After the intensity of the previous evening, there was really only one thing we could do on Day 11. Nothing.

We had returned to our accommodation so late that the idea of getting dressed, organising ourselves and heading somewhere else simply seemed unnecessary. Instead, we changed, walked straight down to the beach and settled in for what would become one of the quietest days of the entire Tour.

And, quite honestly, it was exactly what we needed.

Another day of temperatures exceeding 30 degrees. Another day beneath the Greek sun. Another day of swimming, lounging, talking, laughing and, for many of us, catching up on some much-needed sleep. By this stage of the journey, the waters of the Aegean had already captivated something deeper than our attention. They had become part of the rhythm of our days, a place where tired bodies could recover and busy minds could finally switch off. In fact, aside from the rest, we spent much of the day reflecting and reminiscing on the incredible experience the previous night in Ossa granted us.

The beach culture itself, also continued to fascinate us. Australia is blessed with some of the world's most beautiful beaches, and we know that better than most. But the experience here is distinctly different. In Greece, the concept of the serviced beach is so ordinary that it barely requires explanation. You arrive, find your place, settle into a lounge, and the beach comes to you. Coffee, smoothies, refreshments, snacks and meals can all find their way to you without ever requiring you to leave the shoreline.

It is a simple difference, but one that changes the entire experience.

What struck us even more was how naturally food becomes part of the beach environment. Throughout the day, mobile vendors moved along the shoreline, offering one temptation after another- freshly prepared loukoumades, doughnuts filled with custard or Merenda, and ice creams to help battle the heat. There was something wonderfully uncomplicated about it all. No need to pack an esky, no need to leave the water in search of something to eat. You could simply lie back, listen to the waves and wait for someone to walk past offering you dessert.

It was, quite literally, another day in paradise.

In the afternoon, we made our way back to Bahari Gyros & Grill Stories for lunch, returning to a place that had already become familiar to us during our stay. Good food, good company and plenty of time to simply sit together continued the theme of the day: no schedule, no stage, no bus to catch and no performance to prepare for. Just the privilege of being together, enjoying where we were and allowing ourselves to rest.

The success of this tour was made possible through the generosity and support of numerous organisations, businesses and individuals. In recognition of their invaluable contributions, we established a tradition of offering a toast before each meal in honour of those who helped transform this dream into reality.

At this dinner, we raised our glasses in appreciation of our Major Event Sponsor, The National Bank of Greece- Εθνική Τράπεζα and Chief Representative / Manager Katerina Pantopolis, expressing our sincere gratitude and wishing her and her team continued good health and prosperity.

After another full day beside the Aegean, the Dream Team was refreshed, re-energised and ready to trade the beach for another evening out. Our destination once again was the majestic Platamonas shoreline.

The rest was over.

The night was waiting...

DAY 10:
But now it was time to party...

After the intensity of the Evolution performance and the formalities of the award presentation, the Dream Team was directed back towards our table, where once again, philoxenia took over the show. Succulent chicken skewers, cooked to perfection over a charcoal grill, began arriving at the table, accompanied by drinks, desserts and the unmistakable warmth that had characterised every moment of our return to Ossa.

But the food was only the beginning.

With incredible musicians providing the soundtrack, the evening quickly transformed into a traditional Greek glendi that would continue well into the early hours of the morning. And this was no limited regional repertoire. Through their extraordinary musicianship and seemingly endless repertoire, we travelled across Greece, from the dances of the Larissa region to traditions from almost every corner of the country- clarinettist Spyros Mpokoros , singers Marios Mpakagiannis , Νίκη Σουφλέρη , and their live band!

It was during these hours that the locals began to realise that the Dream Team was not simply a polished troupe trained to reproduce a series of pre-arranged choreographic sequences.

They were dancers who understood Greek dance.

The knowledge carried within that group extended far beyond what had been rehearsed for the stage. One dance would lead to another, then another, and another, with members of the Dream Team recognising regional rhythms, formations and sequences and stepping naturally into the circle. What they demonstrated throughout the night was not choreography being performed, but cultural knowledge being lived.

And this is where the beauty of the panigiri, the glendi, reveals itself.

It is not scripted.
It is not a production.
It is not predetermined.

There is no choreographer standing at the side directing what happens next. There is simply a connection between the dancers as a collective, their connection with the musicians, and their shared understanding of the traditions being expressed. It is felt rather than explained.

The musicians play.
The dancers respond.
The energy moves around the circle.

And somehow, without anyone needing to say what comes next, everyone knows.
So we danced.
For hours.
As a team. As a community. As a family.

As the night slowly began to draw towards its conclusion, there was one final presentation we needed to make. Before farewelling the beautiful people of Ossa, we presented our DESTINATION PATRIDA Gift Pack to Mr Georgios Aggelis and Mr Tasos Hadoulos as a small expression of our gratitude for everything they had given us throughout the evening.

The DESTINATION PATRIDA Gift Pack has become one of our Tour traditions. Whenever a community, organisation or individual opens its doors to our Dream Team and becomes part of our journey, we leave behind a tangible piece of that journey in return. The pack includes the official DESTINATION PATRIDA Tour Programme, together with carefully selected items representing our school, our journey from Australia and the story we are creating across Greece. It is not simply a gift. It is our way of saying thank you, and of leaving a small piece of Australia behind with those who have welcomed us so warmly.

Our original "Famous 15" remembered leaving Ossa in 2024 with one overwhelming feeling- we simply did not want the night to end.

Two years later, it was even harder for our Dream Team.

This time, the connection had deepened. What had begun as a warm welcome in 2024 had developed into something more enduring. There was hospitality, certainly, but there was also genuine care, genuine interest and a connection that extended beyond the boundaries of a performance or a single evening.

These were relationships we did not want to simply walk away from.

And, in a way, we didn't.

Eventually, we had to leave. The bus would depart, the village would return to its quiet rhythm, and our journey would continue towards the next destination. But the connections remained. Many of the friendships formed in Ossa continue through social media, conversations and messages across the distance that separates Australia and Greece.

Perhaps that is one of the greatest gifts of DESTINATION PATRIDA.

We may have to leave the village, but we do not necessarily leave the people behind.

And so, as we finally farewelled Ossa, we did so with the hope that this would not be our last embrace with this beautiful community. We eagerly anticipate the day when another DESTINATION PATRIDA Tour brings us back to the foothills of Kissavos, back to the square, back to the music, and back to the wonderful people who have now become such an important part of our journey.

Ossa had welcomed us twice.

We already knew we wanted to return a third time.

Firstly, we extend our appreciation to former student and family of Maria Hatzilada for the proposal and introduction to local dance instructor Μιχαλης Τσακνακης , who then extended the invitation and opportunity to participate in the event as part of our Greece Tour.

In particular, we extend our appreciation to Γεώργιος Αγγελής, Τάσσος Χαδούλος, Ιωαννα Χαδουλου and the wonderful members and volunteers of the Μορφωτικος Συλλ.Οσσας for their hospitality and philoxenia, together with the other participating organisations, instructors, and dancers who all welcomed us and made our team feel immensely appreciated and valued.

ΗΜΕΡΑ 10:
Αλλά τώρα ήταν ώρα για γλέντι...

Μετά την ένταση της παρουσίασης του Evolution και την ολοκλήρωση της επίσημης τελετής απονομής, η Dream Team κατευθύνθηκε και πάλι προς το τραπέζι μας, όπου για ακόμη μία φορά η φιλοξενία ανέλαβε πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο. Ζουμερά σουβλάκια κοτόπουλου, ψημένα στην εντέλεια πάνω στα κάρβουνα, άρχισαν να καταφθάνουν στο τραπέζι, συνοδευόμενα από ποτά, γλυκά και εκείνη την ξεχωριστή ζεστασιά που είχε χαρακτηρίσει κάθε στιγμή της επιστροφής μας στην Όσσα.

Αλλά το φαγητό ήταν μόνο η αρχή.

Με τους εξαιρετικούς μουσικούς να δίνουν το μουσικό υπόβαθρο της βραδιάς, η βραδιά μετατράπηκε γρήγορα σε ένα παραδοσιακό ελληνικό γλέντι που θα συνεχιζόταν μέχρι τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες. Και δεν επρόκειτο για ένα περιορισμένο, τοπικό ρεπερτόριο. Μέσα από την εξαιρετική μουσική τους και το φαινομενικά ατελείωτο ρεπερτόριό τους, ταξιδέψαμε σε ολόκληρη την Ελλάδα, από τους χορούς της περιοχής της Λάρισας μέχρι παραδόσεις σχεδόν από κάθε γωνιά της χώρας- ο κλαρινίστας Σπύρος Μπόκορος, οι τραγουδιστές Μάριος Μπακαγιάννης, Νίκη Σουφλέρη και η ορχήστρα τους!

Ήταν κατά τη διάρκεια αυτών των ωρών που οι ντόπιοι άρχισαν να αντιλαμβάνονται ότι η Dream Team δεν ήταν απλώς ένα καλοδουλεμένο χορευτικό συγκρότημα, εκπαιδευμένο να αναπαράγει μια σειρά από προκαθορισμένες χορογραφικές ακολουθίες.

Ήταν χορευτές που γνώριζαν τον ελληνικό χορό.

Η γνώση που κουβαλούσε αυτή η ομάδα ξεπερνούσε κατά πολύ όσα είχαν προετοιμαστεί για τη σκηνή. Ο ένας χορός οδηγούσε στον άλλον, και μετά σε έναν ακόμη, με τα μέλη της Dream Team να αναγνωρίζουν φυσικά τους τοπικούς ρυθμούς, τους σχηματισμούς και τις χορευτικές ακολουθίες και να μπαίνουν αυθόρμητα στον κύκλο. Αυτό που παρουσίασαν καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της νύχτας δεν ήταν μια χορογραφία που απλώς εκτελούνταν, αλλά μια πολιτιστική γνώση που ζούσε μέσα από τους ίδιους.

Και εδώ ακριβώς αποκαλύπτεται η ομορφιά του πανηγυριού, του γλεντιού.

Δεν είναι σκηνοθετημένο.
Δεν είναι μια παραγωγή.
Δεν είναι προκαθορισμένο.

Δεν υπάρχει ένας χορογράφος στην άκρη να καθοδηγεί τι θα συμβεί στη συνέχεια. Υπάρχει απλώς η σύνδεση μεταξύ των χορευτών ως σύνολο, η σύνδεσή τους με τους μουσικούς και η κοινή τους κατανόηση των παραδόσεων που εκφράζονται. Είναι κάτι που το αισθάνεσαι, δεν χρειάζεται να το εξηγήσεις.

Οι μουσικοί παίζουν.
Οι χορευτές ανταποκρίνονται.
Η ενέργεια κινείται μέσα στον κύκλο.

Και, με κάποιον τρόπο, χωρίς κανείς να χρειάζεται να πει τι ακολουθεί, όλοι γνωρίζουν.
Και έτσι χορέψαμε.
Για ώρες.
Ως ομάδα. Ως κοινότητα. Ως οικογένεια.

Καθώς η νύχτα άρχισε σιγά-σιγά να φτάνει προς το τέλος της, υπήρχε μία τελευταία παρουσίαση που έπρεπε να κάνουμε. Πριν αποχαιρετήσουμε τους υπέροχους ανθρώπους της Όσσας, προσφέραμε το DESTINATION PATRIDA Gift Pack στον κ. Γεώργιο Γεώργιος Αγγελής και στον κ. Τάσο Χαδούλο, ως μια μικρή έκφραση της ευγνωμοσύνης μας για όλα όσα μας είχαν προσφέρει καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της βραδιάς.

Το DESTINATION PATRIDA Gift Pack έχει πλέον γίνει μία από τις παραδόσεις της Περιοδείας μας. Κάθε φορά που μια κοινότητα, ένας οργανισμός ή ένα άτομο ανοίγει τις πόρτες του στη Dream Team και γίνεται μέρος του ταξιδιού μας, αφήνουμε πίσω μας, με τη σειρά μας, ένα απτό κομμάτι αυτού του ταξιδιού. Το πακέτο περιλαμβάνει το επίσημο Πρόγραμμα της Περιοδείας DESTINATION PATRIDA, μαζί με προσεκτικά επιλεγμένα αντικείμενα που αντιπροσωπεύουν τη σχολή μας, το ταξίδι μας από την Αυστραλία και την ιστορία που δημιουργούμε σε ολόκληρη την Ελλάδα. Δεν είναι απλώς ένα δώρο. Είναι ο δικός μας τρόπος να πούμε «ευχαριστώ» και να αφήσουμε ένα μικρό κομμάτι της Αυστραλίας πίσω μας, σε εκείνους που μας υποδέχθηκαν με τόση ζεστασιά.

Οι δικοί μας «Famous 15» θυμούνταν την αναχώρησή τους από την Όσσα το 2024 με ένα και μόνο συναίσθημα- απλώς δεν θέλαμε να τελειώσει η βραδιά.

Δύο χρόνια αργότερα, ήταν ακόμη πιο δύσκολο για τη Dream Team μας.

Αυτή τη φορά, η σύνδεση είχε γίνει βαθύτερη. Αυτό που είχε ξεκινήσει το 2024 ως μια θερμή υποδοχή είχε εξελιχθεί σε κάτι πιο ουσιαστικό και διαρκές. Υπήρχε φιλοξενία, βεβαίως, αλλά υπήρχε επίσης γνήσιο ενδιαφέρον, πραγματική φροντίδα και μια σύνδεση που ξεπερνούσε τα όρια μιας εμφάνισης ή μιας και μόνο βραδιάς.

Ήταν σχέσεις από τις οποίες δεν θέλαμε απλώς να απομακρυνθούμε.

Και, κατά κάποιον τρόπο, δεν το κάναμε.

Κάποια στιγμή, έπρεπε να φύγουμε. Το λεωφορείο θα αναχωρούσε, το χωριό θα επέστρεφε στον ήσυχο ρυθμό του και το ταξίδι μας θα συνεχιζόταν προς τον επόμενο προορισμό. Όμως οι συνδέσεις παρέμειναν. Πολλές από τις φιλίες που δημιουργήθηκαν στην Όσσα συνεχίζονται μέσα από τα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης, τις συζητήσεις και τα μηνύματα που διασχίζουν την απόσταση που χωρίζει την Αυστραλία από την Ελλάδα.

Ίσως αυτό να είναι ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα δώρα του DESTINATION PATRIDA.

Μπορεί να χρειάζεται να φύγουμε από το χωριό, αλλά αυτό δεν σημαίνει απαραίτητα ότι αφήνουμε πίσω μας τους ανθρώπους.

Και έτσι, καθώς αποχαιρετούσαμε τελικά την Όσσα, το κάναμε με την ελπίδα ότι αυτή δεν θα ήταν η τελευταία μας συνάντηση με αυτή την όμορφη κοινότητα. Ανυπομονούμε για την ημέρα που μια ακόμη Περιοδεία DESTINATION PATRIDA θα μας φέρει πίσω στους πρόποδες του Κισσάβου, πίσω στην πλατεία, πίσω στη μουσική και πίσω στους υπέροχους ανθρώπους που πλέον έχουν γίνει ένα τόσο σημαντικό κομμάτι του ταξιδιού μας.

Η Όσσα μας είχε υποδεχθεί δύο φορές.

Ήδη γνωρίζαμε ότι θέλαμε να επιστρέψουμε για τρίτη φορά.

Καταρχάς, εκφράζουμε την ευγνωμοσύνη μας στην πρώην μαθήτρια και την οικογένεια της Μαρίας Χατζηλάδα για την πρόταση και τη γνωριμία με τον τοπικό δάσκαλο χορού Μιχάλη Τσακνάκη, ο οποίος στη συνέχεια μας απηύθυνε την πρόσκληση και μας έδωσε την ευκαιρία να συμμετάσχουμε στην εκδήλωση, στο πλαίσιο της Περιοδείας μας στην Ελλάδα.

Ιδιαίτερα, εκφράζουμε την ευγνωμοσύνη μας στον Γεώργιο Αγγελή, τον Τάσσο Χαδούλο, την Ιωάννα Χαδούλου και τα υπέροχα μέλη και τους εθελοντές του Μορφωτικού Συλλόγου Όσσας για τη φιλοξενία και τη ζεστασιά τους, καθώς και στους υπόλοιπους συμμετέχοντες οργανισμούς, δασκάλους και χορευτές, οι οποίοι όλοι μας υποδέχθηκαν και έκαναν την ομάδα μας να αισθανθεί βαθιά εκτιμημένη και ιδιαίτερα ευπρόσδεκτη.

DAY 10:
IT WAS TIME FOR OSSA TO EXPERIENCE OUR "EVOLUTION"

After everything that had unfolded since our arrival, the moment had finally come. The welcome, the introductions, the performances we had watched, the conversations with locals, the memories of 2024, and even those unexpected two words waiting for us outside our changing room- “EVO OSSA”, had all led us to this point. We had come to Ossa not simply to participate in another evening of Greek dance, but to return to a community with which we had already established a meaningful connection, and to share with them something that had become deeply synonymous with the MANASIS identity.

I was afforded the opportunity to address the audience prior to our performance, and it was important to acknowledge the relationship that had been established during our 2024 visit. Returning to Ossa in 2026 was something we did not take for granted. We expressed how humbled we were to have been invited back and to have the opportunity to once again share in the community's celebration, this time as part of our DESTINATION PATRIDA, 2026 Greece Tour.

And for this particular occasion, there was no question about what we wanted to present. We had deliberately chosen our signature piece- the Evolution Bracket.

Evolution was conceived and choreographed by MANASIS in 2008 for our first Multicultural Folkloric Dance Concert. What began as an experimental choreographic concept, built around the idea of presenting Greek traditional dance as a continuous Performing Art rather than a series of isolated dances, would go on to become one of the defining routines of MANASIS. With modest refinements over the years, Evolution became one of our two signature Senior Dance Group productions, performed exclusively by dancers who had reached the pinnacle of our school.

Its philosophy was simple, but its ex*****on was anything but. Rather than stopping between dances, the production moves continuously from one region, rhythm and choreographic language into another, creating a seamless theatrical journey through Greek dance. Traditional material remains at its core, but the presentation is transformed through choreography, musical arrangement, transitions, formations, movement and pacing. It was part of the broader philosophy that had driven MANASIS for decades- to preserve the essence of Greek tradition while allowing it to breathe, evolve and communicate with contemporary audiences.

For almost two decades, Evolution had remained a defining part of our identity. It had been performed across Australia and on some of the most significant stages and occasions of the MANASIS calendar, but until DESTINATION PATRIDA 2026, it had never been performed in Greece.

And now, here we were.
In Ossa.
The music began.
The Dream Team stepped onto the floor.
And Evolution came to life.

What followed was everything we had hoped it might be- and then something more. Upon the closing moments of the performance, the audience erupted.

We had become accustomed during the Tour to seeing audiences react in different ways to Evolution. The production is deliberately constructed to take the audience on a journey, and because of its continuous nature, people can sometimes remain remarkably quiet as they watch, trying to understand where the production is going and what might come next. That silence is not necessarily disengagement. Often, it is concentration. The audience is captivated, absorbed and simply waiting to see where the journey will take them.

But Ossa was different... Ossa was completely captivated.

And as the final moments arrived, that captivation transformed into something far more visceral. The audience erupted with an energy that was impossible to miss.

For any dancer (certainly within the Greek dance world) this is the dream.

Because dancers do not simply perform for an audience. We create energy with the intention of inspiring and motivating the people watching us, and when an audience responds by reflecting that energy back towards the dancers, something extraordinary happens.

The relationship between performer, audience and environment changes.

There is an elevation.

There is more bounce in the movement, bigger smiles, greater enthusiasm and an intensity that cannot be manufactured. The dancers feel the audience, the audience feels the dancers, and the physical space around them becomes part of the performance itself. The distinction between those performing and those watching begins to disappear.

It becomes something metaphysical.

And when that happens, the experience surpasses the simplistic task of “go, perform, finish, leave”.

It is not a job. It is an existence.
Ossa verified that for us.

In those moments, we were reminded that this is not simply what we do.
It is who we are.

As the performance came to its conclusion, the committee, through its President, Mr Γεώργιος Αγγελής , and Mr Tasos Xadoulos, presented our dance school with a beautiful marble plaque as a memento of our visit. It was a generous gesture of appreciation and one that will remain with the school as a tangible reminder of our return to Ossa and the relationship that had begun here in 2024.

Our Dream Team were also presented with individual gifts, allowing each dancer to carry home something tangible alongside the memories of their time in Ossa- a small personal reminder of a night that had become anything but ordinary.

BUT....

Now it was time to party.

As the closing group of the evening, our performance marked the end of the formal programme and the beginning of something altogether different. The tables were ready, the food began to arrive, drinks were poured, desserts appeared and the music continued.

There was no hurry.
There was no schedule to follow now.
There was simply a glendi waiting to happen.

And what followed would become another near-endless Greek night of food, drink, music, dancing, laughter and celebration... the kind of night where the formal performance ends, but the real celebration has only just begun.

Firstly, we extend our appreciation to former student and family of Maria Hatzilada for the proposal and introduction to local dance instructor Μιχαλης Τσακνακης , who then extended the invitation and opportunity to participate in the event as part of our Greece Tour.

In particular, we extend our appreciation to Γεώργιος Αγγελής, Τάσσος Χαδούλος, Ιωαννα Χαδουλου and the wonderful members and volunteers of the Μορφωτικος Συλλ.Οσσας for their hospitality and philoxenia, together with the other participating organisations, instructors, and dancers who all welcomed us and made our team feel immensely appreciated and valued.

ΗΜΕΡΑ 10:
ΗΡΘΕ Η ΩΡΑ Η ΟΣΣΑ ΝΑ ΖΗΣΕΙ ΤΗ ΔΙΚΗ ΜΑΣ «EVOLUTION»

Μετά από όλα όσα είχαν διαδραματιστεί από την άφιξή μας, η στιγμή είχε επιτέλους φτάσει. Η υποδοχή, οι γνωριμίες, οι παραστάσεις που είχαμε παρακολουθήσει, οι συζητήσεις με τους ντόπιους, οι αναμνήσεις του 2024, ακόμη και εκείνες οι δύο απρόσμενες λέξεις που μας περίμεναν έξω από το καμαρίνι μας- «EVO OSSA», όλα μας είχαν οδηγήσει σε αυτή τη στιγμή. Είχαμε έρθει στην Όσσα όχι απλώς για να συμμετάσχουμε σε ακόμη μία βραδιά ελληνικού χορού, αλλά για να επιστρέψουμε σε μια κοινότητα με την οποία είχαμε ήδη δημιουργήσει έναν ουσιαστικό δεσμό, και να μοιραστούμε μαζί τους κάτι που είχε γίνει πλέον βαθιά συνυφασμένο με την ταυτότητα της σχολής μας.

Μου δόθηκε η ευκαιρία να απευθυνθώ στο κοινό πριν από την παράστασή μας, και ήταν σημαντικό να αναγνωρίσουμε τη σχέση που είχε δημιουργηθεί κατά την επίσκεψή μας το 2024. Η επιστροφή μας στην Όσσα το 2026 ήταν κάτι που δεν θεωρούσαμε δεδομένο. Εκφράσαμε πόσο ταπεινοί και ευγνώμονες αισθανόμασταν που είχαμε προσκληθεί ξανά και που είχαμε την ευκαιρία να μοιραστούμε για ακόμη μία φορά τη γιορτή της κοινότητας, αυτή τη φορά στο πλαίσιο του DESTINATION PATRIDA, 2026 Greece Tour.

Και για τη συγκεκριμένη περίσταση, δεν υπήρχε καμία αμφιβολία για το τι θέλαμε να παρουσιάσουμε. Είχαμε επιλέξει σκόπιμα το χαρακτηριστικό μας κομμάτι- το Evolution Bracket.

Το Evolution δημιουργήθηκε και χορογραφήθηκε από τη σχολή μας το 2008 για το πρώτο μας Multicultural Folkloric Dance Concert. Αυτό που ξεκίνησε ως μια πειραματική χορογραφική ιδέα, βασισμένη στην αντίληψη της παρουσίασης του ελληνικού παραδοσιακού χορού ως μιας συνεχούς Παραστατικής Τέχνης και όχι ως μιας σειράς μεμονωμένων χορών, θα εξελισσόταν σε μία από τις πλέον χαρακτηριστικές χορογραφίες του MANASIS. Με μικρές προσαρμογές μέσα στα χρόνια, το Evolution έγινε μία από τις δύο χαρακτηριστικές παραγωγές του Επαγγελματικού Χορευτικού μας, παρουσιαζόμενη αποκλειστικά από χορευτές που είχαν φτάσει στην κορυφή της σχολής μας.

Η φιλοσοφία του ήταν απλή, αλλά η εκτέλεσή του κάθε άλλο παρά απλή. Αντί να σταματά ανάμεσα στους χορούς, η παραγωγή κινείται συνεχώς από τη μία περιοχή, τον έναν ρυθμό και τη μία χορογραφική γλώσσα στην άλλη, δημιουργώντας ένα αδιάκοπο θεατρικό ταξίδι μέσα από τον ελληνικό χορό. Το παραδοσιακό υλικό παραμένει στον πυρήνα του, αλλά η παρουσίαση μεταμορφώνεται μέσα από τη χορογραφία, τη μουσική ενορχήστρωση, τις μεταβάσεις, τους σχηματισμούς, την κίνηση και τον ρυθμό. Ήταν μέρος της ευρύτερης φιλοσοφίας που είχε καθοδηγήσει το MANASIS για δεκαετίες- να διατηρεί την ουσία της ελληνικής παράδοσης, επιτρέποντάς της παράλληλα να αναπνέει, να εξελίσσεται και να επικοινωνεί με το σύγχρονο κοινό.

Για σχεδόν δύο δεκαετίες, το Evolution παρέμενε ένα καθοριστικό κομμάτι της ταυτότητάς μας. Είχε παρουσιαστεί σε ολόκληρη την Αυστραλία και σε μερικές από τις σημαντικότερες σκηνές και περιστάσεις του ημερολογίου του MANASIS, αλλά μέχρι το DESTINATION PATRIDA 2026, δεν είχε παρουσιαστεί ποτέ στην Ελλάδα.

Και τώρα, ήμασταν εδώ.
Στην Όσσα.
Η μουσική ξεκίνησε.
Η Dream Team πάτησε στην πίστα.
Και το Evolution ζωντάνεψε.

Αυτό που ακολούθησε ήταν όλα όσα ελπίζαμε ότι θα μπορούσε να είναι- και ακόμη κάτι περισσότερο. Στις τελευταίες στιγμές της παράστασης, το κοινό ξέσπασε.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της περιοδείας, είχαμε πλέον συνηθίσει να βλέπουμε τα κοινά να αντιδρούν με διαφορετικούς τρόπους στο Evolution. Η παραγωγή είναι σκόπιμα σχεδιασμένη ώστε να οδηγεί το κοινό σε ένα ταξίδι, και λόγω της συνεχούς φύσης της, οι άνθρωποι μερικές φορές μπορεί να παραμένουν αξιοσημείωτα ήσυχοι καθώς παρακολουθούν, προσπαθώντας να κατανοήσουν προς τα πού κατευθύνεται η παραγωγή και τι μπορεί να ακολουθήσει. Αυτή η σιωπή δεν σημαίνει απαραίτητα αποστασιοποίηση. Συχνά, είναι συγκέντρωση. Το κοινό είναι καθηλωμένο, απορροφημένο και απλώς περιμένει να δει πού θα το οδηγήσει το ταξίδι.

Όμως η Όσσα ήταν διαφορετική... η Όσσα ήταν απόλυτα καθηλωμένη.

Και καθώς έφτασαν οι τελευταίες στιγμές, αυτή η καθήλωση μετατράπηκε σε κάτι πολύ πιο έντονο. Το κοινό ξέσπασε με μια ενέργεια που ήταν αδύνατο να μην γίνει αισθητή.

Για κάθε χορευτή (σίγουρα μέσα στον κόσμο του ελληνικού χορού) αυτό είναι το όνειρο.

Γιατί οι χορευτές δεν χορεύουν απλώς για ένα κοινό. Δημιουργούμε ενέργεια με την πρόθεση να εμπνεύσουμε και να κινητοποιήσουμε τους ανθρώπους που μας παρακολουθούν, και όταν ένα κοινό ανταποκρίνεται επιστρέφοντας αυτή την ενέργεια προς τους χορευτές, συμβαίνει κάτι το εξαιρετικό.

Η σχέση ανάμεσα στον καλλιτέχνη, το κοινό και το περιβάλλον αλλάζει.

Υπάρχει μια ανύψωση.

Υπάρχει περισσότερη ζωντάνια στην κίνηση, μεγαλύτερα χαμόγελα, μεγαλύτερος ενθουσιασμός και μια ένταση που δεν μπορεί να κατασκευαστεί. Οι χορευτές αισθάνονται το κοινό, το κοινό αισθάνεται τους χορευτές, και ο φυσικός χώρος γύρω τους γίνεται μέρος της ίδιας της παράστασης. Η διάκριση ανάμεσα σε εκείνους που χορεύουν και εκείνους που παρακολουθούν αρχίζει να εξαφανίζεται.

Γίνεται κάτι μεταφυσικό.

Και όταν συμβαίνει αυτό, η εμπειρία ξεπερνά την απλοϊκή διαδικασία του «πηγαίνω, χορεύω, τελειώνω, φεύγω».

Δεν είναι δουλειά. Είναι ύπαρξη.
Η Όσσα το επιβεβαίωσε αυτό για εμάς.

Σε εκείνες τις στιγμές, μας υπενθυμίστηκε ότι αυτό δεν είναι απλώς αυτό που κάνουμε.
Είναι αυτό που είμαστε.

Καθώς η παράσταση έφτασε στο τέλος της, η επιτροπή, μέσω του Προέδρου της, κ. Γεώργιου Αγγελή, και του κ. Τάσου Χαδούλου, προσέφερε στη σχολή χορού μας μια όμορφη μαρμάρινη πλακέτα ως ενθύμιο της επίσκεψής μας. Ήταν μια γενναιόδωρη χειρονομία εκτίμησης και μία που θα παραμείνει στη σχολή ως μια απτή υπενθύμιση της επιστροφής μας στην Όσσα και της σχέσης που είχε ξεκινήσει εδώ το 2024.

Στη Dream Team μας προσφέρθηκαν επίσης ατομικά δώρα, επιτρέποντας σε κάθε χορευτή να πάρει μαζί του κάτι απτό, πέρα από τις αναμνήσεις του χρόνου που πέρασε στην Όσσα- μια μικρή προσωπική υπενθύμιση μιας βραδιάς που είχε γίνει κάθε άλλο παρά συνηθισμένη.

ΑΛΛΑ....

Τώρα ήταν ώρα για γλέντι.

Ως το τελευταίο χορευτικό συγκρότημα της βραδιάς, η παράστασή μας σηματοδότησε το τέλος του επίσημου προγράμματος και την αρχή ενός εντελώς διαφορετικού πράγματος. Τα τραπέζια ήταν έτοιμα, το φαγητό άρχισε να καταφθάνει, τα ποτά σερβίρονταν, τα γλυκά εμφανίστηκαν και η μουσική συνεχιζόταν.

Δεν υπήρχε βιασύνη.
Δεν υπήρχε πλέον πρόγραμμα που έπρεπε να ακολουθηθεί.
Υπήρχε απλώς ένα γλέντι που περίμενε να ξεκινήσει.

Και αυτό που ακολούθησε θα γινόταν ακόμη μία σχεδόν ατελείωτη ελληνική βραδιά με φαγητό, ποτό, μουσική, χορό, γέλιο και γιορτή... το είδος της βραδιάς όπου η επίσημη παράσταση τελειώνει, αλλά η πραγματική γιορτή μόλις έχει αρχίσει.

Αρχικά, εκφράζουμε την εκτίμησή μας στην πρώην μαθήτρια και την οικογένεια της Maria Hatzilada για την πρόταση και τη γνωριμία με τον τοπικό δάσκαλο χορού Μιχάλη Τσακνάκη , ο οποίος στη συνέχεια απηύθυνε την πρόσκληση και μας έδωσε την ευκαιρία να συμμετάσχουμε στην εκδήλωση στο πλαίσιο του Greece Tour μας.

Ιδιαίτερα, εκφράζουμε την εκτίμησή μας στους Γεώργιο Αγγελή, Τάσσο Χαδούλο, Ιωάννα Χαδούλου και στα υπέροχα μέλη και τους εθελοντές του Μορφωτικού Συλλ. Οσσας για τη φιλοξενία και τη φιλoxενία τους, καθώς και στους υπόλοιπους συμμετέχοντες οργανισμούς, δασκάλους και χορευτές, οι οποίοι όλοι μας καλωσόρισαν και έκαναν την ομάδα μας να αισθανθεί βαθιά εκτιμημένη και σημαντική.
