If wine tasting is on your weekend agenda, make the drive out to Yarrawa Estate.

Tucked away along the Upper Kangaroo River Road amongst rugged sandstone escarpments, this hillside vineyard has been growing wine grapes, walnuts, macadamias and citrus since 1998, and the views across the valley to the river below are reason enough to visit. The cellar door has a relaxed, homely feel, with tastings of Mark and Sue’s estate wines alongside homemade preserves, nuts and cheese.

One guest described Rainforest River Retreat as having actual healing powers, and we understand why.

Set in the pristine Upper Kangaroo River area, just 15 minutes from the village, this home is surrounded by rainforest with over a kilometre of Kangaroo River frontage right at your doorstep. The swimming hole just below the house is one of those spots that stops you in your tracks, and the nightly wombat visits in the yard have become something of a guest favourite.

Inside there’s a wood fire, electric blankets on every bed and a fully equipped kitchen so you have everything you need to completely settle in. Outside, the deck overlooks the river and the bush stretches out in every direction.

Things to do over the long weekend | Part 4

No long weekend in Kangaroo Valley is complete without a long, unhurried lunch - and the village has you well covered.

Pull up a seat at Valley Bliss for something fresh and seasonal, settle into the Friendly Inn bistro for a classic country pub lunch, grab a coffee and something delicious at The General Cafe, or try the lunch specials at The Lotus Thai if you haven’t been yet. The General Store paninis are also never a bad idea.

The village is small, the food is good, and there is absolutely nowhere else you need to be!
