You don’t have to ski or be intrepid to discover the beauty of the Australian Alps. This winter on Mount Hotham, Alpine Nature Experience will offer a new and unique experience: spending an exclusive and adventurous night in the snow. Founder Jean-Francois Rupp will take you on an evening snowshoe adventure through the snow gums to reach his hidden eco-village and central tipi, before sharing some
French cooking tips and assisting guests prepare their own French cheese fondue. Mr Rupp hopes to attract first timers to the snow, families, seminars and school groups. Hailing from the heart of the French alps, Jean-Francois has always wanted to encourage others to discover the beauty of the mountains and experience the snow. Since relocating to Australia in late 2014, he has been looking for the chance to share his passion for the outdoors and alpine activities. “At first I was sceptical of the term “Alps” in Australia, but I love the mountains here, they are more accessible than in France and have an untouched feeling to them”. Mount Hotham was a clear standout for his project due to the striking beauty of the mountain, snow reliability and overall atmosphere.
“For me the snow is about much more than skiing, it’s about the beauty of the scenery, the food, and surrounding yourself in nature” he said. Collaborating with Hoys Skis and Zirky’s, Alpine Nature Experience has received a warm welcome from resort management and local businesses who are keen to see their customers catered for in a new way.
