This morning we lost our good friend Roger Budz “Budzy” having succumb to numerous health issues after the stroke he suffered at the 2024 Forest Rally.
Budzy first came into rallying after he spectated at an AMC event, when the start and car park stage was in the Midland Shopping Centre car park.
He immediately got into helping on rallies and did the occasional co-driving. His favourite saying he was “Denis Robert” trained, which then became that others were Budz Trained. He assisted many new people into the sport, in particular our faithful Setters and Mobile Safety Teams. He would tell them, “I am not your “Mother”, get your Registrations In.”
Budzy was the backbone of the Forest Rally stages, doing the bunt list, finding Setters, booking their accommodation, clearing the roads, then putting up the arrows and caution boards and water barriers. Then he would go 000 on the rally and then go back out and pull it all down.
He did the same on many other rallies, always organised and couldn’t understand why others weren’t as well.
We will miss his laughter, friendship and the occasional blast which was normally deserved.
