π¦ Weekly Wrap Up β Round 6 π¦
What a massive week at the Creek!
Round 6 saw Slacks Creek proudly host the U6 Gala Day, welcoming 32 teams and 48 games across a fantastic morning of rugby league. It was a huge community effort, and there are so many people who deserve recognition.
A massive thank you to our Under 15s and their families who worked tirelessly throughout the day running the canteen and fundraising for their team.
Special recognition must go to our parking crew β Jack, Christopher, James, Brenton, George and Jarred. With hundreds of players, families, and visitors in attendance, parking could easily have become chaotic, but thanks to their efforts, everything ran smoothly from start to finish.
Our young referees were simply outstanding, officiating all 48 games between just five referees. They showed professionalism, dedication and maturity well beyond their years. A special thank you to Chris Cheshire from the BRLRA, who spent the morning mentoring and supporting the boys, helping them develop their confidence and skills throughout the gala.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to our First Aid Officers, Tristan and Tate, who were on hand throughout the day, ensuring the safety and well-being of all players, officials and spectators. Thankfully, their services weren't needed often, but their presence and professionalism provided peace of mind for everyone involved and played an important role in the day's success.
Finally, a huge thank you to our rock-solid committee members Angela, Fiona, Brian and Jack. The day flowed seamlessly thanks to the countless hours they put in behind the scenes to make the event such a success.
U6s
What a great day for our Under 6s at their Gala Day! In perfect sunshine, the team played with plenty of energy, determination and teamwork, making the most of every minute on the field. The players had plenty of fun, built confidence with every game, and made their families proud with their effort and smiles from start to finish.
With the rest of the teams travelling away.
U7 Red
A huge shout-out to all the U7 Red boys after a fantastic game at Greenbank. It was an entertaining match for all the travelling families, with unmatched teamwork and energy throughout the day.
Player of the Match: Raffy π
U7 Green
With only 6 players and no interchange players available today, the boys dug deep and put in a fantastic team performance. They found some great rhythm throughout the game and really stepped up for each other, showing plenty of determination and resilience.
Huge congratulations to Malachi and Jasper, who both scored their debut tries today, a special milestone for the boys and one they'll remember for a long time! There were some brilliant tries scored across the match, along with plenty of last-ditch tags that saved certain tries and kept the team in the contest.
An outstanding away-game effort from every player, with the boys showing great teamwork, effort and never-give-up attitude from start to finish. Well done, Green! πππ¦
U8 Red
The Under 8 Red side travelled to Beenleigh to take on the Lions Black with no substitutes available. The boys knew the task ahead and dug deep all game. Those big effort plays made the difference, with every player stepping up when it mattered most.
Player of the Match: Teddy Harrison π
U8 Green
The Under 8 Green team experienced their first Friday night football under the big lights at Mustangs. They played a hard-fought match against an evenly matched opponent and showed tremendous teamwork and determination right through to the final whistle.
Player of the Match: William π
U9s
Another fantastic performance from the Under 9s. The switch of roles between First Receiver and Dummy Half proved a great success, with the players enjoying the opportunity to try different positions and continue developing their understanding of the game.
As always, they played their hearts out, supported one another and came away with the win. It's great to see their confidence and skills growing every week.
Players of the Match: Dante, Onyx & Aubree π
U10s
A superb game from the Under 10s this week! The coaches struggled to select a Player of the Match, which speaks volumes about the team's effort and performance. A game the boys should be incredibly proud of.
Player of the Match: Harry π
U11 Girls
The girls are really starting to come together as a team, with everyone contributing across the field. The hard work being put in at training is beginning to shine through on game day, with noticeable improvements in teamwork, confidence and effort.
The green shoots are definitely there, and the team continues to build in the right direction each week.
Players of the Match: Tiana & Rylee π
U11 Boys
Another tough result on the scoreboard, but this team continues to improve week after week. Skills are developing, combinations are starting to click, and the group is growing stronger as they build connections on and off the field.
There were plenty of great individual moments throughout the match, highlighting the confidence and hard work being put in at training.
Player of the Match: Toby π
U14s
A valuable lesson was learned for our U14S today. The boys discovered just how important it is to prepare for every game and be ready to perform no matter the circumstances.
While things didn't go our way early, the team showed great character by turning the second half around with a much more positive performance. They dug deep, lifted their intensity, and never stopped competing until the final whistle.
Unfortunately, Flagstone came away with the win, but there are plenty of positives to take from the effort and attitude shown in the second half. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow, and today's experience will make this group stronger moving forward.
Well done, boys, keep working hard and building towards next week. π¦
U15s
The Under 15s travelled to Mustangs Oval this week, and once again the scoreline didn't truly reflect the contest. For large periods of the game, the boys matched it with a strong Mustangs side, forcing errors and competing hard across the park. A few defensive lapses allowed some quick opposition players to capitalise, but there were plenty of positives to take away.
The team did the club proud, showing improved focus, maturity and positivity throughout the day. Every week, this group continues to learn, develop and move forward together.
Player of the Match: Dom π
Open Men
After a slow start against Capalaba, our Open Men had to work hard to find their rhythm and stay in the contest early in the game. While our ex*****on wasn't where we wanted it to be in the first half, the players stuck to the game plan, remained patient, and continued to build pressure.
The second half was a completely different story, with the team finding another gear and playing with greater confidence, energy, and control. Our attack became more direct, support play improved, and we took advantage of our opportunities, crossing for seven tries in an impressive attacking display. Defensively, the boys also lifted, limiting Capalaba's chances and maintaining momentum throughout the half.
It was pleasing to see the team respond after a sluggish start and finish strongly, running out 40β16 winners. The performance highlighted the group's character and showed the value of staying disciplined, trusting the process, and working for each other throughout the full 80 minutes.
A great team effort and another positive step forward. Well done, lads! π¦ππ
Well done to all players, coaches, volunteers, referees and families for another fantastic week representing Slacks Creek Rugby League Football Club.
