Should your hips rotate when playing the cut shot? 🏏

Generally, we want to stay more closed through contact to maintain balance, shape and control.

Cody gets a little open on these, but because his timing and contact are good, he’s still able to generate plenty of bat speed and power.

So, what do you think?

Should you stay closed through the cut shot, or is some hip rotation important for generating power? Let us know in the comments. πŸ‘‡

Want a better batting setup? Start with your alignment. 🏏

A good stance isn’t just about where your feet are. Your whole body needs to work together.

Think:
βœ… Toes in alignment
βœ… Knees matching your feet
βœ… Hips staying neutral
βœ… Shoulders in line
βœ… Chin to shoulder and eyes towards the bowler

If one part gets too open or closed, it can lock up the rest of your body and make it harder to access the ball.

The goal is a balanced, neutral setup that allows you to move and score in different areas.

Simple setup. Better movement. More options.

Do you make this mistake when batting off your pads? 🏏

Sometimes the problem isn’t the flick shot itself. It starts with your setup and backlift.

If your stance is too closed and your bat gets behind your back shoulder, balls on your pads can become difficult to access. That often leaves you swiping across the ball rather than playing through it.

Try to:
βœ… Soften and slightly open your stance
βœ… Keep your backlift in a position where you can access the ball
βœ… Move your head and shoulder towards the line
βœ… Give yourself the option to flick or on-drive

A better setup gives you more scoring options.

Struggling with your back foot defence? Your foot position could be leaving your stumps exposed. 🏏

When defending off the back foot, challenge yourself to get your back foot across towards off stump. This helps you cover your stumps, stay balanced and get into a stronger position to defend the ball.

βœ… Back foot across
βœ… Cover off stump
βœ… Stay balanced
βœ… Play the ball late and under control

Small adjustments can make a big difference to your batting.

Want to take more chances behind the stumps? 🧀🏏

It’s not always about having faster reactions. Often, it’s about putting yourself in a better position before the ball arrives.

Focus on:
βœ… Move your feet to the line
βœ… Get your head behind the ball
βœ… Keep your gloves open and available
βœ… Create maximum catching surface area
βœ… Stay soft and smooth through the take

The goal is simple: give yourself as much margin for error as possible.

Better positioning gives you a better chance of taking the chance.

Want to take more chances behind the stumps? Give your gloves more room to work. 🧀🏏

Good wicketkeeping isn’t just about quick reactions. Your glove position and catching area matter.

Focus on:

βœ… Keep your gloves wide and open
βœ… Move towards the line of the ball
βœ… Avoid closing your hands too early
βœ… Catch at a strong contact point
βœ… Stay soft and smooth through the take

A wider catching area gives you more margin when the ball nicks, turns or deviates late.

More surface area. More margin. More chances.

Keeping back to the quicks? Think fast feet, slow hands. 🧀🏏

The Australian approach to wicketkeeping against fast bowling is about moving your feet laterally to the line of the ball, rather than simply reaching with your gloves.

Focus on:
βœ… Fast lateral footwork
βœ… Get your head and eyes behind the ball
βœ… Take the ball underneath your eyes
βœ… Keep your hands relaxed
βœ… Use a long, smooth β€œgive” through the catch

The quicker the bowling, the more important your positioning becomes.

Fast feet. Slow hands. Clean takes.

Want to take more nicks behind the stumps? 🧀🏏

Don’t just reach with your gloves. Get your feet and head towards the line of the ball.

That small movement gives you:
βœ… More catching range
βœ… Better vision into the gloves
βœ… More room to react to late movement
βœ… Cleaner, more controlled takes

Move your head to the line and give your hands more freedom to react.
