Dave Whait was the best performer of the WA team at the Masters Worlds today, chalking up an eighth place in the only race sailed, to hold onto ninth spot on the leaderboard in the Grand Masters fleet.

Andy Whittell put a 17th place on the scoreboard in the Great Grand Masters fleet and is 18th on the leaderboard.

Robo managed to blow a lead at the last windward mark by misjudging the lay line, twice.

We only had one race today in light and sloppy conditions, then the breeze faded completely and with thunderstorms rattling around the place they sent us ashore.

Lay day tomorrow

The second day of the Laser Standard (ILCA 7) Masters World Championship in Athens was not the sort of day that West Aussies are very familiar with. Light winds and a sloppy sea that don't match up to the healthy Fremantle Doctor and regular wave pattern we are used to.

In the Legends division Robo is being boringly consistent with two more second places, to maintain his second overall, though the good news is that in the second race of the day he beat the American who had won the first three races, so he is beatable.

Dave Whait, sailing in the Grand Masters fleet put a 5th and 19th on the scoreboard, and will be happy that the discard kicked in today so the 19th doesn't count. He is 9th overall and the top Aussie in the division.

Great Grand Master Andy Whittell's day wasn't as good as the first day, scoring 20th and 23rd, and able to discard the 23rd, so he is 18th overall.

Lets hope for some gutsier breezes tomorrow.

Interesting first day of the Masters Worlds, with a northerly offshore breeze that was very shifty and fluctuating, a real "snakes and ladders sort of day. The highlight of the day for the WA team was Andy Whittell leading the GGM fleet for a whole leg of the course!

With two races completed, Dave Whaite is 7th in the Grand Masters fleet with 11th & 6th places. Andy's moment of glory turned into 11th place on the leaderboard with 9th &n 15th places.

In the four strong Legends fleet Robo score two second places and is - surprise, surprise - second on the leaderboard.

The Laser Standard (ILCA 7) Masters Worlds start in Athens today and WA has three representatives competing. The young bloke of the team is Dave Whaite (on the right) from South of Perth Yacht Club, he is in the 33 strong Grand Masters fleet, looks like a tough call.

In the Great Grand Masters is Andy Whittell (on the left), the "Busso Laser Man", he is one of four Aussie in this age group and this will be another hard fought fleet.

Old man of the WA team is Robo, in the newly formed Legends division, with just four willed old blokes thrashing it out, two yanks and two Aussies.
