Today we honour the life of Gordon Gregory — a founding member of the Port Lincoln Pistol Club, a mentor to many, and a tireless advocate for the shooting sports he loved so deeply.
Gordon was one of the people who helped build the pistol club from the ground up. Through his dedication, knowledge, and commitment, he helped create not only a place for competition and training, but a strong community built on friendship, respect, and shared passion.
Over the years, Gordon gave generously of his time and experience to countless members. Many of us were welcomed, encouraged, and guided by him when we first joined the sport. I was one of those people. Twenty-seven years ago, when I joined the club, Gordon took the time to help me, support me, and make me feel part of the shooting community. That kindness and encouragement is something I have never forgotten.
He was respected not only for his skill and knowledge, but for the way he treated people. Gordon understood that clubs are built by volunteers, mentors, and those willing to stand beside others and help them improve. His influence will continue to be felt through the many shooters he encouraged over the years.
Gordon was also a strong advocate for the sport itself. He believed in responsible firearm ownership, good sportsmanship, and preserving the future of pistol shooting for the generations that follow. His voice, experience, and dedication carried great weight within the club and the wider shooting community.
On behalf of everyone whose lives he touched, we thank Gordon for his friendship, guidance, and years of service. He leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Gordon. Your contribution to this club and to the sport will always be remembered.
