Puckridge Pips Pobke

Spring is well and truly here and as a result players out at the Port Lincoln Golf Course are noticing a touch of extra bounce along with some added run which will only grow throughout the season. We thank Jones Electrical and Davey Aust. for their continued sponsorship. Saturday’s men took part in Stroke Competition on Saturday with eighty two players making the most of the conditions. The most thrilling battle was to be found in B Grade where a countback was necessary as Dylan Puckridge just snuck pat Tim Pobke after both men came in with a Nett score of 69. Michael Freeman continued his good run of form, taking out A Grade with a Nett score of 70, just one ahead of Kye Barber. C Grade was taken out by Garry Downey after he put together a Nett score of 70. Bill Healey and David Bellchambers were not far off the pace after they both entered scores of 72.
Cindy Carr put on a show in the Ladies Stableford Competition, amassing a whopping 42 points together to secure the win. Jennifer McDonald was gallant in second place with her 38 points while Maxine Garnaut was a further shot behind.
Thursday’s Stableford Competition saw twenty one women take part to witness Libby Dolphin put together a strong score of 40 points. Lorraine McDonald took second position with her score of 37, just one clear of Josie Bacchus.
A struggling affair for the men on Wednesday with only one player bettering their handicap over all three grades. Kye Barber was the top scorer in A Grade with his score of 34. Close behind were both Trent Bradford and Haydn Myers with both scoring 32. Steven Thomson was able to just claw past both Phil Lessue in and Rick Kolega in B Grade, his score of 35 just one shot clear of the pair. David Krollig found things flowing smoothly in C Grade, putting together the score of the day with 37 points while Michael Kenny and David Reid were his closest rivals, each with 34 points.
Monday saw Rob Humphries just get the better of Michael Hegarty via a countback in Stableford Competition, each scoring 36 points. Nipping at their tails were Graeme D**e and Peter Leahy who both put in scores of 35.
After all this, you would be hard pressed to think that anybody could have topped Cindy’s score of 42 on Saturday. The prior Sunday however in Stableford Competition, Kylan Miller came to play. They blew away the competition with a mammoth 45 points which was a whopping ten clear of their nearest rival in Adam Davies.

Mitch Garrett chips on from close range on the second hole.

Kieran Creeps Closer to Grade Promotion

Spring is here and those taking the time to play out at the Port Lincoln Golf Club are thriving with the extra hour of sunshine. Competing in Stroke Competition with Lincoln Meats sponsoring the week, Kieren Cook can sense the impending Golf and Seafood Week and wanted to make a statement. He obliterated the competition, his Nett score of 67 in C Grade was a whopping eight shots clear of his nearest competitor in David Lawson. It was a much tighter affair in A Grade where a countback was required to find a victor. With a score of 74 to their name, Kye Barber was just able to get the edge of Codey Marchesi. Jason Verhees had a touch of breathing room in B Grade, his Nett score of 72 too much for Warren Rosman and his score of 74.
Stroke was also the competition for the ladies on Saturday where Heather Darley was able to reign supreme. Her Nett score of 72 was enough to secure the win, just a sole shot clear of Cindy Carr while Cynthia Thompson was close behind with her 75.
Jill Arcus thrived in Thursday’s Stableford Competition. She came in with a swagger in her step after putting together a monster score of 42. Any other day, Helen George may have taken the win with her score of 39 but today it just wasn’t meant to be.
Wednesday’s Stableford Competition saw Clinton Scharfe march to the top of A Grade with his score of 41 too much for the rest of the competitors. Shaun Todd was the best of the rest in A Grade with his score of 37. Juri Berzins was too strong in B Grade, his score of 37 was enough to hold back the fast finishing Warren Rosman. It was a close affair as well in C Grade with just one shot separating Michael Haritos from John Dempsey. Michael’s score of 39 was just enough to claim the win.
Michael Haritos also claimed the win on Sunday’s Stableford Competition with his score of 37, just ahead of Lachlan Jenkins and his score of 36.

Phil Lessue sends his ball soaring off the first tee block.

Woods Works Wonders

After the deluge which hammered the town on Monday had soaked into the ground, brilliant conditions for golf were seen throughout the rest of the week and the players made the most of it. With Letcher Moroney Acct sponsoring the week, Grant Woods made the most of the day after putting together a solid score of 38 Stableford points on Saturday to lock in the win in C Grade. It was a close call however as he had Kieren Cook breathing down his neck with his score of 37. It was close going in B Grade as well after Jason Verhees walked in with 37 points to his name, just one ahead of Tim Pobke. Shaun Thomas was able to break away from the pack in A Grade, locking in a score of 39, three shots clear of Kye Barber and Michael Clough.
Stableford was also played by the women on Saturday where Reeta Devi claimed victory with her score of 34. She had Kay Freeth chasing her every step of the way with her score of 33 while Jennifer McDonald and Maxine Garnaut were both a further two shots behind.
