Club Dinner Saturday June 13th Congratulations to everyone involved- Cindy Carr, Haydn Myers, Val Shaarad in the kitchen on the night and cooking beforehand, Thappanee Myers for cooking Thai curries beforehand, Libby Dolphin for making soup, Kay Freeth who cooked 2 fruit crumbles, Jill Arcus made an apple roly-poly, Ally Russell for doing the bar with Pip and continuing after Pip left. Forstner Forges Forward

Slowly but surely the players out at the Port Lincoln Golf Club are adjusting to the wintery conditions, with ferocious winds and heavy rain making things exceptionally challenging on some days. We thank J. P. Cabinets for their support throughout the weeks competitions.
Playing under Stableford rules, Steven Forstner was able to clutch A Grade with his score of 39, one shot ahead of a wall of players that included Shaun Thomas, Norm Marks and Codey Marchesi. It was a simpler affair in B Grade where Kallan Fowler’s score of 39 was unsurpassed with his nearest rival in Geoff Nottle put together a score of 35. In the C Grade, a countback was required as Brad Giles inched past Shaun Carpenter with both men scoring 34.
In the women’s competition, Cynthia Thompson took honours with her round of 36. She was three shots ahead of Libby Dolphin who was another three shots ahead of Heather Darley.
The women took part in Par Competition on Thursday with Jennifer McDonald playing to handicap to put together a score of 0. Behind her, Debra Tromp took second with her score of -2 while Kaye Jaensch, Heather Darley and Michelle Smith all put together scores of -4.
In Wednesday’s Stableford Competition Rob Humphries clinched the win in A Grade via a countback from Boyd McCurry with both men finishing with 38 points. In the B Grade, Juri Berzins also had a score of 38, two shots clear of Chris Cottrell, Ciaran Sheehy and Brian Henson. Scott Ambrose was the victor in C Grade after registering a score of 36. Behind him Grant Heidenreich, Bob Sorensen and Michael Kenny all put together a round of 32.
On Monday, nineteen players took to the field to enjoy the public holiday and duked it out under Stableford conditions. Codey Marchesi took the with his score of 36 a solitary shot ahead of Dylan Puckridge and his score of 35.
Sunday’s Stableford Competition was taken out by Mitchell Garrett and his solid score of 38. Kye Barber came in second position after entering a score of 34.

Deborah Sykes strikes her ball cleanly off the fourth fairway.

Libby Lights Up the Way

With the run practically gone, Winter conditions have truly settled in and bringing with it a slew of challengers to those playing at the Port Lincoln Golf Course. Once again we give thanks to our sponsors and this week we give our gratitude to Kallinyalla Garden Centre. Highlight of the week was to be found in Thursday’s Stableford Competition where Libby Dolphin put together an incredibly competitive score of 40 points. Her score was able to sweep the competition with her nearest rivals in Heather Darley and Jennifer McDonald a whopping seven shots behind the pace.
Saturday saw both men and women take part in Stableford Competition where Kris Bunder and Mitchell Garrett took each other to the brink with both men scoring 38 points in A Grade, yet it was Kris who stood atop after countback. The close battles continued in B Grade where Danny Sharp’s score of 35 was just a single shot ahead of Kym Clarke. A countback was required to in C Grade as well with Daiv Reid just creeping past Leon Newman after both men put together scores of 35.
Debra Tromp was able to claim victory in the women’s Stableford Competition with her score of 36. Cindy Carr was able to sneak into second with her score of 33, just securing the position via a countback from Heather Darley.
Wednesday’s Stableford Competition required a countback in A Grade in order to find a winner. With scores of 36, Codey Marchesi was able to just sneak in the win ahead of Adam Sullivan. Chris Cottrell had the score of the day with his score of 39 taking out B Grade. Kallan Fowler secured second place with his score of 37. Leon Newman took out C Grade with his score of 37, two shots ahead of Michael Kenny.
Sunday’s Mixed Stableford Competition saw Josh Hausler shoot a 71 off the stick in order to put together an astounding score of 41 points. David Bellchambers managed to take second after playing to handicap and securing 36 points.

Lindsay Gordon aims for the 8th fairway off the tee block.

Brenton Bags Big Score

Blustery conditions caused havoc out on the golf course this week with only a handful of golfers capable of putting together big scores. With Aiden Sheehy Building sponsoring the week’s competitions, players took part in Stroke Competition on Saturday. Brenton George wound back the clock, putting together a Nett score of 71 to take out C Grade by a single shot ahead of David Lawson. In the A Grade, Rex Bichard took out Nett honours with his score of 69. Codey Marchesi’s score of 72 saw him sit in second on Nett. A countback was required to find a winner in B Grade with Chad MacGregor just edging past Kallan Fowler after both men put in Nett scores of 74.
Kaye Jaensch took honours in the women’s Stoke Competition with her Nett score of 80. Heather Darley and Jill Arcus battled hard throughout the day to both end up a single shot off the pace.
Thursday’s Stableford Competition required a countback to find a victor. After putting in scores of 33, Carolyn C***s was just able to get the better of Libby Dolphin while Jill Arcus was another shot behind.
Wednesday’s Stableford Competition saw Daniel Townsend take out A Grade with the score of the day, a solid 38 points. Bill Bascomb was able to secure second with his round of 37. Darryl Scharfe took out B Grade, his score of 36 just one shot more than his nearest rival in Haydon Manning. Peter Daniells was able to take out C Grade with his score of 34, two shots ahead of David Reid.

Cynthia Claims Countback Crown

With the golf course introducing a new index over the coming week, this proved the last opportunity for competitors to play in familiar settings. From next week onwards, the holes in which they can acquire higher points will shift entirely. As always, we thank our sponsor of the week, this time with it being South Australian Plumbing Supplies for their assistance.
On Saturday’s Stableford round, a countback was required to find a winner in the ladies competition. Even with a birdie on the sixth hole, it wasn’t enough for Kay Freeth to get past Cynthia Thompson with both women locking in scores of 33 with Heather Darley a further shot behind.
On the men’s side of things, Michael Freeman secured the win in A Grade with his score of 40 points. Chris Brooks battled valiantly for second place with his score of 39. A Countback was required in B Grade as Peter Leahy just snuck past Steven Forstner with both men scoring 37 points. Score of the week was to be found in C Grade with Dylan Puckridge amassing a huge score of 43. He was a whole seven shots clear of his nearest rival in Shaun Carpenter.
Thursday saw the women take part in their monthly medal, battling it out in Stroke Competition. Two shots was all that separated first from third with Jill Arcus claiming the victory with a Nett score of 71. Just missing out was Carolyn C***s with her Nett score of 72 while Diana Laube was another shot behind.
Wednesday’s Stableford round saw Codey Marchesi take out top place in A Grade with his score of 37 enough to keep Rob Humphries and his score of 36 at bay. Score of the day was to be found in B Grade with Ciaran Sheehy locking in a mammoth 41 points. On any other day, Steven Thomson and his score of 39 may have been enough but today was not the day. One shot was all that separated first and second in C Grade with Peter Watherston and his score of 36 just enough to get past Mark Rowett.
Sunday’s Mixed Stableford competition saw Michael Freeman walk away with the win, his score of 38 just enough to best Ally Russell and her score of 37.

Cynthia Thompson takes her tee shot on the 18th.
