FIGHTING FOR OUR FATHERS
What a mixed bag of results for our teams this weekend as they played divided and short compared to their opponents.

The ladies arrived at the grounds of FMR Football Margaret River (Soccer Club) with a lot of us questioning our life choices - waking before 6am, carrying illness and rusty joints, and only nine players available. Collie is never one for backing down however and so we assured ourselves we’d be having fun. Both teams showcased some beautiful, smart football which made for a clean, friendly yet highly competitive match. The Mermaids opened the scoring, despite the effort from our keeper to shut down the opportunity. The battle raged on and we closed the first half at 1-0 to Margs. The second half was no different with both teams making excellent defensive work and seeking attacking chances whenever they could. The hard work for the Power paid off and the scores were made level with 15 minutes left of play. Needless to say, both teams came away proud and impressed with one another.

The men’s home game against Eaton Dardanup Football Club was always set to be a challenge, and a challenge they had. The Royals opened the scoring early on which certainly stunned the Power with another goal following not long after. The battle ensued with some decisions made in the heat of the moment yet Collie staved off further attack until another shot from Eaton-Dardy made it feel almost impossible to turn things around. Much like the women’s side, the Power men aren’t ones to give up that easily and a goal to us meant that we were still in it as the first half closed 1-3 to the Royals. The second half showcased some increased defensive work but it wasn’t enough for the increased attacking efforts by the other team. There was a three-goal blitz from the 60th minute which sealed Eaton-Dardanup’s win. Despite this, Collie kept continued the fight and scored one more with the game ending at 2-6.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
To the dads that put our first soccer ball in our hands,

The dads that give us advice on the sidelines,

The dads that show up each weekend,

The dads that are yet-to-be,
The dads that have just become,
The dads whose time was done,

To the grandfathers, uncles, nephews, stepdads, father figures…

Thanks for all you do for us on and off the soccer pitch.

STRONG SIDES SEE IT THROUGH
Both teams fought very hard today but it was a mixed result at the end.

Our ladies had their heads held high but Busselton City FC - Inc opened the scoring fairly early after hesitation from the keeper, and momentum built from there. City pressed hard and continued to capitalise on opportunity, although a few additional attempts were blocked, they closed the half out 3-0. Undeterred, the Power came out swinging in the second half with a lot of the action in our attacking half, including a beautifully placed goal after fighting all game for the back of the net. Despite our best efforts, City came away with the victory, including snagging one final goal in the dying seconds of the match. Despite the loss, our ladies side hold their heads high and look to finish their season strong.

The men’s catch up game against Manjimup Rovers Soccer Club was something to behold. Both teams were playing short with Collie being the shortest, at nine men to the Rovers’ 10. This didn’t stop the game from being any less of a thriller with the Power opening the scoring and the Rovers giving it their all to respond. In the end, the score speaks for itself and both teams are to be commended for their determination and love of the game.

THIS WEEKEND - Sunday, 30th August
The ladies have advanced into the semi-finals of the South West Cup, playing against Busselton City FC - Inc. If our previous two hit outs against City are anything to go off, Collie will head into the match with high spirits. Kick-off is from 9am at Churchill Park 👏🏼 Best of luck to our ladies who are keeping us in the cup competitions after the men’s unfortunate penalty loss to Blackwood.

The men are playing catch-up from last weekend’s postponed game against Manjimup Rovers Soccer Club. Looking forward to joining the Rovers for a respectable match. Kick-off is from 11am at the Collier Street Recreation Grounds.

GOALS GALORE
Our ladies’ side had quite the fierce battle today with Eaton Dardanup Football Club but it was an excellent game for both clubs.

Collie opened the scoring early, culminating in three goals scored by three different players in the half! The Royals found two chances in very quick succession and we closed off the half 3-2.

The Power needed to keep things rolling in our attacking half but we found ourselves spending a lot of time defending multiple corners in a row at the start of the second half. EDFC managed to capitalise on a hesitant keeper for an equaliser but that didn’t deter Collie’s determination! Just when it felt like the ball wouldn’t move back to the pitch, the ladies cranked it up to 11 and found more chances at the back of the net. The Royals found one final scoring chance, not without a scramble on the goal line.

Our men’s side have postponed their match to (hopefully) next week.

THIS WEEKEND - Sunday, 23rd August
The teams are split this weekend with ladies having their last home game tomorrow and the men playing away in Manjimup.

Our last meeting with the returning Eaton Dardanup Football Club was all the way in Round 1! Collie came away with a solid win (4-0) but since then, the Royals have had plenty of time to craft their skills! Looking forward to seeing you in Collie for a 9am kick-off.

The men head to the oft-marshy Manjimup Rovers Soccer Club grounds, who we last saw at home in Round 5. We came out victors with a very strong score but now we’re on their home turf - anything could happen! Kick-off from 11am.

SPECTACLE FOR THE SPONSORS
It has been a gloriously sunny day for the Power, a change from the usual Collie cold. Both teams had fantastic matches - and while the results aren’t quite as expected, it is a testament of the strength of our club.

The ladies battled it out against Capel Wolves Senior Soccer Club where the Wolves set the scene with a direct free kick. It wasn’t too long after that Collie responded, closing the first half as equal. It took a bit for us to get back into the second half of the match and despite working very hard to stave off opportunities, Capel finally landed the second blow in the final two minutes of the game. Well done, ladies. Thanks for joining us in the warmth!

The men came out guns a-blazin’ with a quick one scored in the first 10 seconds of the game. It was from there that the Raven Raiders fought to equalise, which they did. From there, it was tightly contested from both sides, with both taking chances to score again but the final result sees both teams gain a point. Thanks for joining us Hay Park United Soccer Club , Bunbury.

Thank you to our committee for your behind the scenes work with setting up our grounds and organising the food vans for today. Further thank you to our amazing sponsorship team and the 2016 men’s team for joining us to celebrate 10 years since a historic win!
