1st January, we began our journey across the Nullabor - steady trip, taking us 4 days. We arrived at Mt Gambier in South Australia for the National Title which began on Friday with practise. Not a start we wanted as Peter went out for a practise run, he went well with a pretty competitive time, and then went out again and not sure what happened, but the car took an unusual 90 degree right turn into the wall, causing major damage to right front. The next day the car was in the "doctors" and the amazing panel be**er fixed it perfectly for us at no charge. Saturday and Sunday went quite well, tho was taken to the wall twice, causing damage again. He still managed to start at the back of the 'B' Main, but had to retire with only a few laps to go - which placed him 28th out of 85 in Australia.
We then moved onto Swan Hill in Victoria for the Vic State Title. Thursday saw the arrival of Nadia, Brad, Kobhi and Nayte, which the flights was their Xmas present from Petie .... (Just needed his sisters presence - Love the Love!)
The car again went to the "doctor", but this time, I must say we incorrectly chose "Dr Hillbillies", who charged us to make the car worse than before we took it to them, - ya win some, ya loose some!
The 1st night was a washout..... (should have bought the outboard motors) so we started racing earlier the next day with the car still with unfixed damage, Peter drove like a champ under circumstances, starting at the rear of the "A" Main, and finishing 18th out of 56 in Victoria.
Then Monday we began the trek home. A bit quicker this time, only taking 3 days, but honestly, driving the Nullabor was better than I thought. We got quarantined at the WA border because we had Swan Hill mud left on our car - we had washed it, but obviously not good enough. At least WA protects their state!
Then its a week and a half until the WA State Title in Bunbury. After lots of money, work, beers, and bu****it, the car was fixed and back in A1 condition. Thanks to the Prunsters in Bunbury for the rebuild/repairs.
So, with the car back in mint condition, Peter raced again like a true champion. From rear of field to 3rd, 5th to 3rd, 8th to 3rd, and 1st to 3rd, this placed him 13th on grid to start in the "A" Main. Pretty happy with that, he set off for the25 hard lap final, to finish 9th in WA. Congratulations to the top 5 on the podium, awesome drivers but we just didn't quite have the power to get it quite there.
We would like to thank everyone who went on this journey with us, the support, the comments on FB, the phone calls - truly amazing. Frosty - the main man who spent tireless hours and money getting the car to go like it did - most awesome and appreciated. The Prunsters - Reno, Luke, Matthew and Trent - the help, money, time and running around getting the car back on track after being over east - Jody - Mrs Mum, the chef, the washing, the mental support - true friends. The sponsors - Rick & Linley at Starick Tyres, Greg at the Morawa Newsagency, Nalini at the Mullewa Medical Centre, McIntosh & Sons, Darryl from Hills Panel Repairs, Nadias Vinyl Signs & Design, Mr Fix It Services, and Annies Canvas Prints ... Kats Cartage and Kats Rural of course.
Thank you all so much for your help and support during his Junior racing career, and come June 30 he ventures into the Production Class (against his Mum and Dad I might add). Hopefully we can continue to enjoy your support and sponsorship - and we welcome anyone else that may like to sponsor him.
Thank you everyone.
