Vale Nicolo Ciancio

Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Nicolo (Nick) Ciancio passed away on 7th March 2026, aged 79.

Nick Ciancio represented Australia at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games, placing 6th in the 90kg category. He won gold medals at two Commonwealth Games: Edinburgh 1970 (82.5kg category) and Christchurch 1974 (90kg category).

The AWF extends condolences to Nick’s family.

Vale Gerald Hay

Olympian and Commonwealth Games medallist Gerald Hay passed away on 23rd February 2026 at the age of 79.

Gerald represented Australia at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games and also at two Commonwealth Games – Kingston 1966 and Christchurch 1974. He won the silver medal in the 60kg category at the Christchurch Games with a Total of 235kg.

The funeral service will be held at Simplicity Funerals, 200 Brunker Rd, Adamstown NSW, at 10:00am on Monday 9th March.

The AWF extends condolences to Gerald’s family.
