SA Rogaining Association

SA Rogaining Association Rogaining is a treasure hunt like no other. It’s an adventure strategy sport combining navigation & bushwalking. SA Rogaining is volunteer-run & not for profit.

We provide the location, teams choose their own route, pace, and adventure. Rogaining is the sport of long distance cross-country navigation in which teams of two to five members visit hidden checkpoints within a defined time period. Teams travel entirely on foot, navigating by map and compass between checkpoints in terrain that varies from open farmland to hilly forest. A central base camp (the "

Hash House") provides hot meals throughout the event and teams may return at any time to eat, rest or sleep. Teams travel at their own pace and anyone from children to grandparents can experience the personal satisfaction that comes from cross-country navigation at their own level of competition and comfort. One feature of rogaining is the opportunity for night navigation and the extra challenges that this involves. The classic rogaine is a 24 hour event, but there are also shorter events durations of 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12 hours in the SA rogaining calendar.

📣 Entries for the SARA State Champs close in one week!

Liked the Minigaine? Why not try bush rogaining! It’s the same sport, but in the beautiful Bendleby and Hungry Ranges, located on the 4-wheel drive mecca of Bendleby Ranges Station.

This rogaine’s got a bit of everything: an unusually green landscape, lots of controls close to the Hash House for families or novices, technical navigation for those wanting a challenge, AND hot showers to enjoy afterwards! Luxury!

You can choose to enter the 24hr State Championships or the concurrent 12hr roving event. Remember, you don't have to stay out for the full 24 or 12 hours. Your adventure is your own - you choose how you want to spend your time.

Camping is available for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, with plenty of room to pitch your tent, camper trailer or caravan. People of all ages, fitness and experience levels are welcome - come on out and enjoy exploring a different part of the state.

What a day out at the Jetty? Set? Go! Minigaine today! Proving once again that rogainers are a tough bunch, more than 400 people explored the streets, parks and beaches of Glenelg and surrounds in the wind, rain and occasional sunshine.

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather, and to our fabulous volunteers. Without you we couldn’t make these events happen! Thanks again to the Scouts SA Bushwalking team for setting a great event.

Have some photos you want to share? Drop them below!

Edit: results are now available on the website https://sarogaining.com.au/event/3hourminigaine-2026/
With control 51 being in the water for some of the event (oops!) and some punches not working due to the heavy rain, we had to do more manual adjustments than usual. We think we’ve picked everything up, but please get in touch if there’s anything we’ve missed.

✅ Rogaining rule reminder!

Out of Bounds (OOB)

Most rogaining maps have OOB areas. These areas are out-of-bounds for a reason - maybe because a landowner has not given permission for us to cross their land, or maybe there’s sensitive vegetation, wildlife or stock that can’t be disturbed. We take OOB areas seriously.

OOB areas are usually marked on rogaining maps in pink or cross-hatching, like the image below. Please be respectful of OOB areas - plans your routes around them.

Thanks for keeping our sport awesome, by being respectful of the places we go!

Entries are now open for the SA Rogaining State Championship 12/24hr event, Back to Bendleby!

Join us for a 24-hour or roving 12-hour rogaine at an old favourite, Bendleby Station. Explore gum-lined creeks, ridgelines and stands of callitris forest on rugged hills. Go out for the full 24 hours, or take a casual afternoon stroll in the winter sunshine, returning for hot food by the fire in the evening. There are plenty of controls near the hash house for those wanting a cruisy weekend or to ensure your kids want to come back next time! For teams wanting to go further afield, we have route choice challenges in the ranges, with navigation precision needed on the plains.

As always, camping and some meals are included in your entry fee. Don’t feel like walking but still want an easy weekend away? Why not volunteer! You’ll get your weekend away for free, while giving back to our sport.

Get your team together and enter today!

SA Rogaining recently hosted another highly successful Cactus Cull at Parnaroo. Over 4500 cacti were injected this year (31,000 individual cactus pads) using over 100 litres of Glyphosate! A huge thank you to volunteers Mike, Brad, Fiona, Richard, John, Judy, Ev, Craig, Mark, Jan, Jo, Karen, Kerry, Kate, Ruth, and all the children who contributed their time to this important event. Beautiful weather, great camping and bonfires, shared meals, and the unique experience of exploring the lakes (!) and the green of the outback after rains.

Many thanks to Trevor, Craig, and Catherine for hosting the event and Gavin from the Clare Landscape Board for sourcing the new injecting equipment. Another Cactus Cull will be held this time next year…put it in your diary now!

The eagle-eyed amongst you have noticed that the annual Minigaine is now open for entries. “But it’s not the end of the year!” we hear you all cry! We are changing things up to make way for the Fright Night Halloween rogaine in October, so our minigaine has moved to May!

Join us for a jaunt around Glenelg and surrounds. The terrain is flat and fast, with beautiful beach views and even the chance to stop for a cheeky ice cream or coffee! This rogaine is suitable for everyone - runners, families, prams, and anyone looking to explore the area on a giant treasure hunt.

Entries close 24 May. So dive in!
