Becoming a Pilates teacher is not simply about learning a list of exercises. It is about learning to see the body, understand the system and teach the person in front of you.

My own training is rooted in the lineage of Joseph Pilates, and it is an honour to pass on what I have learned through more than 20 years of teaching.

My program follows the traditional apprenticeship model, with personal mentorship throughout: hundreds of hours of personal practice, observation, teaching, corrections and hands-on experience with the complete Classical Pilates system.

This work takes time. Its depth cannot be rushed.

I am incredibly proud of my apprentices and the teachers they are becoming. 🤎

If you would like to learn more about my comprehensive apprenticeship or my bridge program for already-certified Pilates teachers, you are welcome to contact me☺️.

So much is called Pilates today—but it is not all the same.

Classical Pilates is not simply a series of exercises performed on a Reformer. The Reformer is one part of a complete, interconnected system.

The depth, precision, focus and hands-on guidance matter—not only in how you feel after a session, but in what you are building within your body for the future.

The exercises may look similar.

The experience—and what it creates over time—is not.

This is the difference.

When I first started Pilates, I did not feel safe in my own body.

Before finding Pilates, I had been through a serious accident and other trauma that left me deeply disconnected from myself. Going inward was difficult. I didn’t want to feel more. I wanted to escape my body rather than inhabit it.

Pilates did not suddenly heal that. But slowly, through movement, attention and repetition, I began to reconnect.

This experience is part of why I teach the way I do today.

Every person who enters my studio carries a history I may not be able to see. My role is not simply to teach exercises. It is to observe, to listen and to hold space for each person exactly where they are.

Sometimes movement is about building strength.

Sometimes it is about finding your way back to yourself.

The Reformer is not a leg press.

It is an intelligent apparatus that provides sensory input through the springs, carriage, straps and footbar.

This input gives the body information—where it is in space, how force travels through it, where there is connection and where compensation begins.

The legs may move the carriage, but the body must organize itself as a whole.

This is the depth of the original Pilates method.

We are not training isolated parts. We are teaching the whole system to move with greater awareness, connection and control

I was already teaching Pilates when this photo was taken over 15 ago, but I have never stopped being a student.

I’ve always been curious. I ask a lot of questions. I want to understand why something works, what I’m seeing, and what I might be missing.

And I’ve always loved learning from people who know something deeply. There is something I really value about the kind of understanding that takes years to develop.

More than 20 years into teaching Pilates, I can see how much time matters.

I notice things in a body now that I couldn’t see 15 years ago. I see connections differently. I understand how one small change can affect everything else.

And yet, the more I understand, the more interesting Pilates becomes.

I’m still curious.
I’m still looking closer.
And I’m definitely still learning.

Maybe that’s what I love most about this work.

There is always more to see.

Back pain may be felt in the back, but the reason behind it isn’t always so simple.

The way we use our feet, hips, pelvis, spine — even the way we breathe — affects the back.

This is why I believe so deeply in the full classical Pilates system.

We create strength where it’s needed, mobility where it’s missing, and release unnecessary tension.

It’s not about one muscle or one exercise. It’s about bringing the whole body back into balance.

I like to think of the six Pilates principles as a chain—each one supports the next.

It starts with concentration. Before you can change the way you move, you first have to become aware.

Then comes breath. Your breath prepares your body and supports every movement.

From there you find centering. Once you’re breathing well, you can connect to your powerhouse and create stability.

That stability allows for control. Instead of relying on momentum, every movement becomes intentional.

Control creates precision. You’re no longer just completing the exercise—you’re performing it with purpose and accuracy.

And when all of those principles work together, you experience flow. Movement becomes smooth, efficient, and almost effortless.

That’s how I think about the Pilates principles. They aren’t six separate ideas—they’re one complete system
