**짐바브웨대사관, 올림픽 수영 여제 코벤트리 장관 참석하에 태권도 용품 기증 행사 개최**

주짐바브웨 대사관은 6월 26일 대사 관저에서 짐바브웨 국민적 영웅 커스티 코벤트리(Kirsty Coventry) 스포츠·문화·예술·장관과 짐바브웨태권도협회, 그리고 태권도수련자 등 참석 하에 태권도용품 기증행사를 개최하였다. 코벤트리 장관은 짐바브웨의 전 국가대표 수영선수이자 금메달 2개를 포함 총 7개의 올림픽 메달을 획득한 짐바브웨 최애 스포츠스타이다. 코벤트리 장관은 IOC 위원 자격으로 금년도 1월에도 한국을 방문한 바 있다.

아울러, 동 기증식에는 짐바브웨 태권도 꿈나무들이 소속된 특별한 두 개 의 클럽이 참석하였다. 우선 이미 국내 언론에 소개되었던 ‘IOC 여성과 스포츠상 수상자’인 10대 소녀 나치라이셔(Natsiraishe)가 소속된 엡월스(Epworth)클럽과 수도 하라레에서 남쪽으로 2시간여 떨어진 곳에 위치한 치부(Chivhu)클럽이다. 빈민촌에서 강제 조혼 등 낡은 인습에 고통받는 여아들을 대상으로 태권도 수업을 펼쳐온 태권소녀 나츠라이셔는 최근 수련 대상을 동네의 또래 남자아이들로까지 확대하였다고 하였으며, 기증식에는 남,녀 수련생이 함께 참석하였다. 치부(Chivhu) 태권도 클럽은 아빠 무부티(Muvuti)를 중심으로하여 8명의 아이를 포함 총 10명의 가족이 운영하고 있다. 놀랍게도 자녀 4명이 지난 5월 수도 하라레에서 개최된 대사배태권도에서 모두 메달을 획득하였다. 이 외에도 금일 행사에는 짐바브웨 올림픽 위원회, 스포츠레크레이션위원회 관계자 등 총 50여 명이 참석하였고, 현지 주요 언론 5개 사도 참석하여 동 기증식에 대한 큰 관심을 보였다.

짐바브웨에는 전국적으로 약 30여개의 태권도 클럽이 운영되고 있고, 소속 회원수 역시 약 2천여명 이상으로 태권도에 대한 관심과 열정이 매우 큰 나라이다. 주짐바브웨 대사관은 올해로 양국 수교 30주년을 맞아 지난 5월 수도 하라레에서 대사배 태권도대회를 성공적으로 개최한 데 이어, 국내 태권도진흥재단을 통해 총 400여개의 도복 등의 물품을 지원받아 금번 태권도 용품 기증식을 개최하였다. 또한, 오는 9.18일 국내 국기원 태권도 시범단을 초청하여 짐바브웨 최대 문화센터에서 공연을 계획하는 등 지속적인 태권도 외교를 전개하여 짐바브웨내 태권도 발전을 비롯하여 태권도를 통한 양국의 우호관계를 더욱 돈독히 해 나가겠다는 입장이다.
