A total of 11 Zambian players have secured places in the main draw of the ITF J30 Tennis Championship, with round-robin action getting underway today in Lusaka.
The home contingent comprises three boys and eight girls, who will be looking to make their mark as week 1 of competition continues through to 20 June 2026.
The tournament represents a landmark moment for Zambian tennis. It is the first International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament to be hosted in Zambia in 23 years, following the country's reinstatement to the ITF in 2025. Hosting the event on home soil provides local players with a rare opportunity to earn valuable international ranking points and gain exposure to high-level competition without the challenges and costs associated with international travel.
The return of ITF tennis to Zambia comes at an exciting time for the sport, with several junior players making significant strides on the regional and international stage. Among them is Yula Ulendo, whose recent performances have highlighted the growing potential of Zambia's next generation of tennis talent.
As round-robin matches begin, attention will be on the Zambian players as they seek to capitalize on home-court advantage and continue the resurgence of Zambian tennis on the international stage.
