Chipolopolo midfielder Obinno Chisala says winning over Niger is not just about finishing second but sustaining a winning culture ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.

In an interview with the FAZ Media in Ndola, Chisala says it would be important to chalk back-to-back victories for the team and keep their hopes of a second place, which could land them a possible slot in the play-offs.

“For this game, we are just aiming to win, that is the only thing that we want. If we win this game, we might qualify for the play-offs for the World Cup,” says the El Merreikh star.

Chisala says the away win to Tanzania had injected the team with some measure of confidence that could be crucial in upcoming fixtures.
“The game we played against Tanzania gave us confidence, even as we play the next game, we have that confidence that we can win. It is not easy playing an away game and collecting maximum points,” he says.
“This is the last game, as for us Zambians we always aim to finish the group in a strong momentum so that we know that as we are coming into the next camp, we have that clear picture that at least we won two games and the confidence and morale is very high in the camp. That is a good picture for us.”

Chisala says a winning spirit would be good for the squad ahead of the AFCON.
“It will help us a lot when you talk of team bonding, this is the time where we can bond as a team and know each other very well. This will boost the individual confidence of each individual player,” he says.

He has appealed to the fans to turn up in numbers and spur the team to victory.
“Thanks for coming even though we disappointed you (fans) for the last game. We are assuring you that we will collect maximum points so come as you did last time,” he says.

On his undeniable versatility that has seen him deployed as a left back and also midfielder, Chisala says, “I can play in a many positions, I just need to be ready in as much as they (coaches) play you as a defender or midfielder you just have to be ready because you are doing it for the badge.”

Zambia plays Niger tomorrow (Sunday) in a Group E FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Andrew Kamanga, the current Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) boss, has been instrumental in growing grassroots football in our country. His efforts have not only laid a strong foundation for our future national team, the Chipolopolo, but have also brought much-deserved recognition to Zambia on the international stage.
As we approach the FAZ election, with Kamanga running for a second term, it is important to acknowledge and appreciate the remarkable work he has done for grassroots football in Zambia. It is without a doubt that he deserves a big award for his contributions, not only in grassroots football but also in women's football.
Under Kamanga's leadership, grassroots football has seen immense growth in Zambia. The grassroots development program, which was launched in 2017, has been a huge success with over 10,000 boys and girls participating in various age categories across the country. This has not only provided a platform for young players to showcase their talents but has also ensured that there is a constant flow of talent into the national team.
One of the key factors that have led to the success of this program is Kamanga's commitment to investing in infrastructure. Through partnerships with local and international organizations, he has been able to build state-of-the-art training facilities and football fields in various communities, providing a conducive environment for young players to train and play.
Moreover, Kamanga has also placed a strong emphasis on increasing the participation of women in football.
