The event, hosted under the patronage of the Japanese Ambassador, also celebrated the growing ties between Japan and Zambia through sport. Officials noted that judo continues to teach young Zambians focus, respect, and self-discipline beyond the mat.

Tennis ASC Holiday Cup Successfully Hosted at OYDC Zambia.

OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre was filled with excitement as it successfully hosted the Tennis ASC Holiday Cup, bringing together young tennis players from across Lusaka for a day of competition, learning and celebration.

The tournament was organised by German volunteers Luisa Benson and Jannik Schneider, who have been working closely with young tennis athletes at OYDC Zambia as part of their volunteer programme. The Holiday Cup provided an important platform for the young players to experience competitive tennis, test their skills and gain confidence in a tournament environment.

For the 30 participating athletes, the competition marked an important step in their development. Having spent considerable time training and improving their techniques, the tournament gave them an opportunity to put their skills into practice against other young players.

Their contribution has extended beyond coaching, as they have played an important role in creating opportunities for young players to learn, compete and develop a greater appreciation for tennis.

Speaking during the medal presentation, OYDC Zambia Non-Sports Programmes Officer Richard Mulenga expressed appreciation to Luisa, Jannik and the entire team of volunteers for their commitment and dedication to the development of young athletes.
Mulenga said OYDC Zambia was pleased with the contribution made by the volunteers, describing their work as meaningful and impactful.

He commended Luisa and Jannik for investing their time, knowledge and energy in young tennis players, noting that the skills and values they have shared will continue to benefit the athletes even after their departure.

The Tennis ASC Holiday Cup therefore served not only as a sporting competition, but also as a celebration of the relationships built between the volunteers, coaches and young athletes during their time at OYDC Zambia.

OYDC Zambia remains grateful to Luisa Benson and Jannik Schneider for their commitment and contribution to the development of tennis and looks forward to seeing the young athletes continue to grow and pursue their sporting ambitions.
The Centre also continues to welcome partnerships and initiatives that provide young people with opportunities to develop their sporting abilities, build confidence and experience the values of teamwork, discipline and fair play.

Sport has taught us teamwork, respect, and fair play. The same values must guide us outside the field. Do not allow yourselves to be used to spread political violence. Your jersey represents your country, not a political party. Protect that honor.
Your voice matters , use it at the ballot, not in the streets.
As citizens you have the right to vote. Register, learn about the issues, and vote peacefully. That is how you shape the future of sport and of our nation.
Sport itself plays a big role in democracy: it unites people from different tribes, regions, and backgrounds under one flag. It reminds us that we can compete fiercely and still shake hands after.
