🥉🇿🇲EMMANUEL KATEMA BOWS OUT IN THE SEMI-FINALS, SECURES WELL-DESERVED BRONZE — AND A MASSIVE PAYDAY
Zambia’s Emmanuel Katema has wrapped up his remarkable run at the 2025 IBA Men’s World Championships with a bronze medal, following a competitive semifinal bout against Kazakhstan’s Livaza Omar.
In a tournament where controversial judging affected other Zambian fighters, Katema’s fight stood out for the right reasons. His bout carried none of the heavy bias seen elsewhere — the result came through clean competition, fought and decided in the ring. Omar edged the contest, but Katema’s effort and discipline were undeniable.
By reaching the semifinals, Katema has secured $75,000 (about K1.9 million) under the IBA prize structure.
According to the IBA’s distribution rules:
50% goes to the boxer → $37,500 (approx. K950,000)
25% to the coaches → $18,750 (approx. K475,000)
25% to the national federation → $18,750 (approx. K475,000)
This makes Katema not only a medalist, but one of the highest-earning Zambian amateur boxers on the world stage — a massive achievement for a young fighter proving his worth in the biggest arenas.
Katema leaves Dubai with pride, honour, and a bronze medal etched next to his name. His performance strengthens Zambia’s growing footprint in global amateur boxing and showcases the undeniable talent within the country.
A warrior.
A medalist.
A million-kwacha performer.
🇿🇲 Congratulations, Emmanuel Katema. Zambia stands with you.
