Sharing some playing philosophy and principles - I think it important to have a good idea of what you want your team to 'look' like they are doing when a complete stranger is watching them play. All the phases of play and match moments can be condensed into key categories and then everyone on your team knows what the key principle is and their role in that phase.

Ajax always use triangles for their youth development passing drills, and it fits perfectly with the 433 or 343 formation that is common at the club. Teach your players about movement and angles, and the importance of the '3rd man' - so hard to defend the 3rd man runs off the ball. Repetition of passing drills to enhance situational familiarity and these are then introduced into game situations so players can see the where and when. See the example and then look at the Ajax passing angles and player positions to see how many 3rd man runs are possible in this formation??!!

I have been involved in football development coaching since I stopped playing in 1999. If you use the word 'development' there must be a program behind it. Development is a process NOT an event. I see anything from 2 hour up to 3 day 'development' events advertised regularly, and at steep prices too. If you think there is a shortcut to football success - you are wrong. If you think European clubs are interested in 13 and 14 year old local players - you are wrong. Stop lying and cheating kids. Focus on the process, every day, every week, every year and you might make the 1% that even have a decent trial opportunity. Rant over. (I have watched the game at the highest level - it is not easy - and there are no shortcuts)

Or do you adjust your model to suit the players you have? The younger the players, the more YOU must adjust.
