Cathkin Trails is a club based in the Central Drakensberg driven by our passion for mountain biking and trail running. We are dedicated to maintaining and developing trails in this area. With a growing network of trails there is plenty of great riding and running for all skill levels.

Want to enjoy the outdoors? Please note the following;
Some sections of our trails remain closed due to bridges washing away and not yet repaired.
Fear not, we still have some trails for you to enjoy.
The mountain splendour side trails are still waiting for you to visit. Park at the brewery and turn right towards Cedarwood, or park at Mountain splendour. We ask that you scan the zapper or use your card and sign the indemnity. Keep watching our posts for updates on the trails.

After heavy rains and flooding, a number of bridges on Cathkin Trails have been swept away. Therefore, Cathkin Trails are closed until further notice. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Yay, finally, we are winning, small steps though. The Paisley bridge over the sterkspruit at the bottom of the Cedarwood/sports downhill has been relocated slightly upstream from previous spot. There is a map attached of the current 18.6km from Champagne Sports. The signage should be completed today. A route to start the process until other bridges are repaired. Follow current signs, DO NOT GO ON PREVIOUS KNOWN ROUTE AS BRIDGES ARE NOT THERE.
Mountain Splendour trails are also open. It costs a lot to repair bridges and maintain trails, so please pay your way and keep the trails sustainable.

A HUGE BIG THANX to the wonderful people in our community. First pic is our Dassies pool bridge from the back of the Nest, collect on the Bell Park Dam Road. Second pic is of our Drak Sun Road bridge stuck at the R600.
Last few pics are of our team retrieving our Paisley bridge on the R600 by Little Acres.
Our three gents say a huge big Thanx to the staff at the Nest for assisting with their time and vehicles. To Mike Frost for assisting with co-ordinating and support. To the staff at Four Rivers for also offering assistance with equipment. To John Killen and the other members of the community for coming forward to offer assistance.
Our two sections of bridge are safely out the river just in time before the next rains.

Our smart gents in their new overalls. Thank you to Mike Frost and Ladysmith Construction for sponsoring. Thank you to Belinda Spence and Priya Balakisten for their safety boots which they received last year already.
Our gents are working hard, retrieving our washed away bridges that got stuff down river. The new bridges cannot be built until the water strength and levels subside.
We wish to Thank our community for assistance in locating broken bridges and assisting in their retrieval.
Our team are trying hard to have the trails sorted asap.

Cathkin Trails are currently closed due to bridge damage and wash aways.
The team need time to assess the damage and do repairs. For your own safety, Please do not use the trails. The river is too high and fast to cross on foot.

Exciting action in our valley. IMPORTANT NOTICE. Due to an event on Cathkin Trails both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, 6th and 7th November, THE TRAILS WILL BE CLOSED BOTH DAYS, for non participants to about 12 noon.
We wish all participants a fabulous run and/or ride and hope you return for another outdoor holiday.
