Situated on the banks of Island Lake, Wilderness, the concept, design and management of our yard is a result of knowledge drawn from several countries and years of experience. The horses live as natural a lifestyle as possible, spending at least 18 hours a day grazing as a herd. Peter Kaye is a BHS Instructor who has developed a unique training system for horses and riders garnered from some of the best horse minds in the world. Join-up and a natural, gentle yet classic approach develops mutual confidence and trust. Lessons are offered in all disciplines and at all levels. Beginners as well as riders with special needs are welcome. We cater for local and foreign tourists. A unique horse experience can also give those who don't want to ride a glimpse into the world of horses. The space for the horses to run freely, the lush year round grazing, soft going and beautiful setting make this a wonderful place to be. First class facilities include a huge jumping arena, dressage arena, lunge rings, loose jumping school and cross-ties. All this makes Anchor Park THE place to retire your old friend or train your new one. A happy horse is a good horse!

P**p Patrol 🐎🌱🐦

It has taken a bit of training but we have managed to get our local helmeted guinea fowl flock to play a very useful role in managing the paddocks. Scratching through the horses’ droppings in search of oats - they spread the manure, allowing it to dry out, break down and return nutrients to the soil and pasture.

It’s a simple, natural system that helps reduce flies and means less time spent manually managing manure — allowing more of our time and labour to go where it matters most: looking after the horses.

Can't say the job doesn't come without any risk though - bet this one wishes he had a real helmet🤣

🐴 LIKE A BOSS JOINS THE HERD 🐴

After a week of careful introductions and gradual familiarisation, the time has finally come to release our newcomer into the herd.

As expected, 25-year-young Ringo was quick to remind everyone who's really in charge! A few moments of herd etiquette later, and the Boss is one step closer to becoming part of the crew.

Watching horses establish their social order is a fascinating and important part of the integration process.

First introductions 🐎

Before a new horse joins the herd, we always give everyone a chance to get to know one another other safely over a fence. It gives horses a chance to sniff, communicate and begin establishing the herd hierarchy, helping make the eventual introduction much smoother and reducing the risk of injuries.

So far, so good. We'll keep you updated on his settling in process.

A few final adjustments to the stable as we prepare to welcome a new horse to Anchor Park.

Moving yards is a big change, so we do our best to make the transition as smooth, safe and low-stress as possible. Introducing a strange horse to the herd is a step-wise, natural process that we aim to replicate carefully and effectively.
