The iconic 18-hole format we know today actually started at the Old Course in St Andrews, which originally had 22 holes. In 1764, the course was redesigned to combine some of the shorter holes, reducing it to 18, a layout that was more practical and balanced for the game.

🏴‍☠️ By the mid-1800s, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews popularised the format, and it soon became the global standard.
🥃 And the whiskey tale? A fun rumour suggests 18 holes matched the number of shots in a bottle of Scotch, but the truth is firmly rooted in history and tradition.

What a finish to an incredible week of match play! ⛳🔥

Grant Cox has been crowned the 2026 KZN Junior Match Play Champion, defeating Tylo Naidoo 2 & 1 in the final at Amanzimtoti Country Club.

A fantastic performance from Grant throughout the tournament, capped off with the title when it mattered most. 👏🏆

🏆 THE FINAL FOUR ARE SET!

The 2026 KZN Junior Match Play has reached the business end, with four players remaining after another fiercely contested round at Amanzimtoti Country Club. ⛳🔥

Santiago Dos Santos produced an impressive 8 & 7 victory, while Tylo Naidoo booked his place with a commanding 6 & 5 win.

Evan Phillips needed extra holes to get past Soren Schlussas, eventually winning 1 UP on the 20th, while Grant Cox completed the semi-final line-up with a 2 UP victory.

An exciting opening round of the KZN Junior Match Play Championship at Amanzimtoti Country Club saw eight players book their places in the next round.

Congratulations to Ryan Douglas, Santiago Dos Santos, Kaleb McNally, Tylo Naidoo, Soren Schlussas, Evan Phillips, Grant Cox and Matthew C Smith on their Round 1 victories. 👏
