❤️ What a morning!

Yesterday, nearly 500 runners and walkers came together for the Fun Run in Aid of Su***de Prevention, organised by Westville Girls' High School.

A huge congratulations to Westville Girls’ High School for putting together such a wonderful event and for supporting such an important cause.

Westville Athletic Club was incredibly proud to support the event and to see our community come together to run, walk, encourage one another and raise awareness around mental health and su***de prevention.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part, volunteered and helped make the morning such a success.

Most importantly, the proceeds from the event will go towards supporting mental health care and su***de prevention initiatives.

Nearly 500 people. One community. One very important cause. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who showed up and helped make a difference.

🏑🏐⚽️🏒⚾️ 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔! 🏑🏐⚽️🏒⚾️

On Tuesday evening, Westville Athletic Club was proud to support the Sports Gear Drive organised by Round Table Westville189 by hosting the collection at the club.

And what an incredible response from our members! We received a huge amount of pre-loved sports gear and equipment, which will now be put to good use supporting children in need and helping them get involved in sport.

Thank you to our members and the wider Westville community for helping us give the gift of sport. ❤️👏

From the trails of DNUT to the streets of Durban, Westville AC was out in force this weekend.

A special shoutout to 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧, who put in a brilliant performance at the Durban North Ultra Trail to finish 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥! 🥈🔥

And how good was it seeing so many familiar red and white stripes making their way through the purple crowds at the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km? ❤️🤍💜

Different races, different challenges, but the same Westville spirit. Well done to everyone who got out there and represented the club - whether racing hard, chasing a goal, enjoying the run or cheering from the sidelines.

𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐢𝐳 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Liz Chelin, who passed away peacefully last night.

Liz and her husband, JP, joined Westville Athletic Club in the mid-1990s. Already an accomplished athlete, Liz's competitive spirit flourished in the colours of Westville, and she quickly became a formidable runner, frequently finding herself on the podium and playing a key role in ladies' team victories.

Liz's forte was ultra-distance running. She earned her Comrades Green Number, including a First Club Runner award, and was one of a small and elite group of women to achieve a Comrades Silver Medal. During a particularly successful period for Westville's ladies' team in the mid-1990s, Liz was often at the front, helping the team dominate team podiums.

Her achievements included major road-race victories, among them the Bergville to Ladysmith Ultra, where she was honoured with race life membership after completing the race 21 times. Her performances also earned her Provincial honours.

But Liz's contribution to Westville was about far more than her running.

Liz and JP were passionate club members who served on the Westville AC Committee and were deeply involved in the life of the club. They were also an important part of the Westville social fabric. Liz and JP were famously among the first couple on the dance floor and, more often than not, among the last to leave. Her commitment to the club was recognised with a Chairperson's Award.

When Liz and JP later moved to Hillcrest and began training with members of Hillcrest Athletic Club, they eventually made the decision to join Hillcrest AC. But even as her running took her elsewhere, her connection to Westville remained firm.

Liz approached her battle with illness with the same grit and determination that had defined her running career, outliving the odds by a considerable margin. Through it all, she remained firmly family-first, surrounded by those she loved.

Liz leaves behind her beloved husband JP, her son Cuan and daughter Caryn, as well as their extended family and a close circle of friends who have been inspired by her strength and determination.

For those of us at Westville, Liz will always be remembered not only for the races she won and the medals she earned, but for the friendship, commitment, laughter and memories she gave to our club.

Thank you, Liz, for the miles, the memories and the legacy you leave behind.

Our deepest condolences to JP, Cuan, Caryn and all of Liz's loved ones.

🌕🌅 Moonlight to morning light.

Saturday mornings don’t get much better than this.

The Westville crew was out early for our Sunrise Club Run, with the full moon still hanging around as we set off and the sunrise waiting for us at the finish. 🌅

A beautiful morning, a good few kilometres, and plenty of familiar faces along the way.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made the early start worthwhile. ❤️🤍

That’s the weekend officially underway! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
