To Every Swimming Coach – Thank You. 🏊‍♂️❤️

These words speak the truth.

Swimming is so much more than medals, podiums, or personal bests. It’s about building character, resilience, discipline, and shaping young people into the adults they will become.

Behind every swimmer are countless early mornings, cold winter training sessions, long drives to galas and championships, weekends away from home, and hours of dedication that most people never see. Along the way come lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, lessons in humility, victories to celebrate, and defeats that teach perseverance.

To every swimming coach—thank you.

Thank you for believing in your swimmers before they believe in themselves. Thank you for your patience, your guidance, your encouragement, and for leading by example. The greatest coaches don’t just teach technique; they inspire confidence, build character, and leave a legacy that lasts far beyond the pool.

Years from now, swimmers may forget a training set or a race time, but they will never forget the coach who challenged them, believed in them, and showed them what they were capable of achieving.

Swimming isn’t just a sport—it is a journey that shapes lives.

Here’s to every coach, every swimmer, and every family who embraces the journey. The legacy you build isn’t measured only in medals, but in the people you help shape and the lives you inspire. 💙🏊

LARA VAN NIEKERK’S GOLDEN COMEBACK! 🇿🇦🥇🏊‍♀️

Some gold medals are won in 30 seconds. Others take four years.

South Africa’s Lara van Niekerk produced one of the most emotional victories of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, successfully defending her women’s 50m breaststroke title in a superb 30.43 seconds.

But the time on the clock tells only a small part of this story.

Four years ago, Lara was one of the brightest young stars in world swimming. At just 19, she won both the 50m and 100m breaststroke titles at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and added a World Championship bronze medal during a remarkable breakthrough year.

A succession of injuries and illness disrupted her progress, including a back injury that forced her to miss last year’s national championships.

Even qualifying for Glasgow was a battle. She missed the required qualifying time in the 100m breaststroke before securing her place in the 50m, the event her coach reminded her had “always been her thing”.

Once she reached Glasgow, Lara showed glimpses of the champion South Africans remembered. She recorded a season-best 30.23 in the heats, won her semifinal and then delivered when it mattered most.

When she touched the wall in the final, she initially wasn’t certain she had won. It was only after removing her goggles and looking at the scoreboard that the emotion poured out.

Lara later said this medal meant even more than the gold she won four years ago because of everything she had needed to overcome.

This was not simply a champion defending her crown. It was a young woman returning from injury, disappointment and years of uncertainty to stand once again on top of the Commonwealth podium.

Lara van Niekerk is back. And she is golden once more. 🇿🇦💚💛

Congratulations, Lara. South Africa is enormously proud of you!

Team South Africa holds strong at 7th with 25 medals! 🥇🥈🥉

While most athletes dream of standing on a Commonwealth Games starting block, Danika Vyncke is living that dream. A dream she never imagined would begin in a swimming pool simply meant to help her make friends.

The University of Pretoria swimmer will represent Team South Africa at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, competing in the S13 50m and 100m freestyle events. For Vyncke, who lives with Stargardt disease, a rare inherited eye condition that causes progressive central vision loss, the journey has been about much more than medals.

Alongside her younger sister, who has the same condition, Vyncke was homeschooled after the pair experienced bullying at school. Looking for a way for them to feel part of a community, their mother introduced them to swimming.

Although her father narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Commonwealth Games during his own swimming career, Danika says competitive sport wasn’t initially part of her plan.
