Riviera on Vaal parkrun – 12/09/2026– event #280

The Saturday morning air was crisp, but the competitive heat was pressing at the finish line. Petejunior Moses stormed through in 22:56 to take 1st place, with Sean Maseola and Papi Mathe breathing down his neck in a desperate sprint for the podium.
The day's ultimate achievement, however, belonged to a very young Lischke Jacobs. Finishing 5th overall as the first female finisher, she left fully grown adults hyperventilating in her wake. Even as Samuel Paledi and Chantál Kruger celebrated their New PBs, the victory was slightly muted by the reality of being outpaced by a primary schooler. Well done Lischke.
Down the line, 80-plus legends Susan McEwan and Ria Coetzee comfortably proved that coffee tastes better after 5km and that age is but a number

Along the banks of the Vaal River, dedicated volunteers have brought 278 Riviera on Vaal parkrun events to life, turning a simple 5km route into a weekly ritual for 6,240 participants in total with 27,716 finishes. Beyond the 4,434 Personal Bests achieved, the average finish time of 00:46:14 captures the true heart of the event: a warm, inclusive space for runners, walkers, strollers, and seniors alike, where simply showing up, is the real victory. Kudos to all participants this morning
