A morning at the local I wasn’t expecting, hoping to intercept a Croc Couta this time of year there is a real chance but finding shoaling smaller fish I would have never have guested it, but that’s fishing part of it that keeps us on the water is mornings like this, getting up in dark cold winter mornings. Off shore winds that feel ice and wet surf launches through winter swell.

An Oil Fish or Snake Mackerel from the depths of the Pacific, this fish isn’t targeted by sports fishermen, but still a cool deep water fish, big teeth and rough sand paper like skin, the flesh is rich in Omega 3 oils and fats and if consumed it a laxative.

First paddle back home, on my new stealth 575 and in the Annual UKFC kayak fishing competition, day one a massive 34km and 7 hours on the water catching a Couta and a solid yellow fin that got me 15th position over all, narrowly missing 2nd by 100g. Day 2 I got a racing snake of a Couta at the local. Feels so good to be back and paddling again.
