Riethuiskraal Stud

Riethuiskraal Stud Riethuiskraal is a private thoroughbred breeding establishment. It also provides the perfect setting for the care and conditioning of thoroughbred horses.

Riethuiskraal Farm is situated 15 km from the coastal town of Stilbaai, nestled against the Goukou River estuary. The farm, established in 1834, is blessed with calcium rich soil, abundant spring water and wide open space ideally suited for breeding thoroughbreds. Riethuiskraal runs a private breeding operation, and presents a holding facility for horses in transit to the Western Cape. Riethuiskra

al also offers pre-training and Ready to Run sales preparation. The farm was previously owned by acclaimed novelist Wilbur Smith. In April 2000 Altus Joubert, an advocate from the Johannesburg bar, purchased the land from Smith and developed it into a stud farm. At that time Joubert had already been breeding thoroughbreds for some 10 years, boarding mares at various farms. As a consequence the horses were bred in the name of “Adv A.P. Joubert”. All such horses referred to herein reflect the breeder as “Riethuiskraal Stud”. The stud is the source of several champions and other outstanding horses. By the beginning of 2013 the stud had produced horses that have won more than 400 races. The most notable are National Colour, Crimson Palace, Flirtation and Lambarina.

STIDOLPH SADDLES FIRST TWO IN REPUBLIC CUP

First two horses home in the US$ 50 000 Republic Cup run at Borrowdale Park on Saturday were saddled by Bridget Stidolph, while Eurakilon and Whiteline Fever filled the other places.

Morgen Nyamagwete picked up a last minute ride on the winner, Mathematician, when carded jockey Keagan de Melo was kicked on the knee on the way to the start. Locally based Nyamagwete made the most of his lucky break timing his ride to perfection.

At the 400m mark it seemed Duffi's Call had the race in the bag, then Mathematician breezed past, winning margin two lengths.

Mathematician, by Black Minnaloushe (USA) out of an Elliodor (FR) mare, was bred by Adv. J.P. Joubert, and is owned by Newbury Racing (Pty) Ltd (nominee Mr D.E. Evans).

Congratulation to all the winning connections.

MATHEMATICIAN STAYED

There was no need to worry .. Mathematician stayed. The son of Black Minnaloushe (USA), trained by Bridget Stidolph and with Brendon McNaughton in the irons, won the 2400m Zimbabwe Derby at Borrowdale Park on Sunday in fine style.

Mathematician dominated throughout and finished four lengths clear of Betula Uber, always chasing, with Super Good and Finlay filling the other places.

Owned by Newbury Racing, this was the three-year-old gelding's third win at Borrowdale. He was previously trained by Justin Snaith and bred by Adv. A.P. Joubert

Perfect Smart, formerly Brunel, got up to get his third win at Happy Valley in Hong Kong over 1000m. A graduate off the 2013 National Two Year Old Sale where the son of Count Dubois sold for R110 000, he is bred by Riethuiskraal Stud and out of mare Akilah by Al M***i. This is his third win to date and he has won over $400 000 in stakes. A former inmate of the Tony Millard racing stable, Perfect Smart is now trained by C W Chang and owned by Eddie Li Man.
