St Francis Runners

St Francis Runners The Purpose or Objectives for the “Club” is as follows:

1. where some have not even dared to go!

2. To race as a “Force from St Francis”!

To provide a healthy and friendly club for walkers, road and trail runners, and those that “would love to be” i.e. To be around supportive, motivating people where the forum is about companionship and not only around competitiveness.

3. To see friends and friends-of-friends go from “no exercise” to “walker” to “plodder” to “runner” to “racing snake”!!!

4. To all get together to achieve our pers

onal goals of running various races.

5. Whether running or walking, where we are easily identifiable by the same kit or colours.

6. To plan together and be accountable to someone (should you chose to). This will definitely make you more successful in your desired goals and outcomes.

7. To have a once-a-week time trial where there is a platform for you to measure your own improvement. You definitely push yourself harder if someone is breathing down your neck! Time trials will have different distances, but with the same start and end point so that we can all meet afterwards.

8. To run off road on trails safely as a bunch and not as an isolated individual

9. To traverse and discover new routes together, or to share those you already have found but have no one to share them with

10. To set up achievable programmes with particular goals in mind

11. To have a base that we can start and/or end at – with a sociable drink – not necessarily alcoholic(!) – and a shower afterwards.

12. To set up a roster so that we know on any given day someone WILL rock up at a place and time for you to meet, so that if your regular running buddy gets sick, doesn’t mean you miss out too!

13. To keep each other informed of up and coming races and to share racing tips!

14. To know that there is a forum in which you can try find running numbers if you have entered a particular race too late, or if you want to pass your number onto.

15. To host our own running races under our own banner making a place for ourselves in the running calendar

16. Should we run races, to do so affiliated to a charity or cause of choice, whether it be through sponsorship per km or other

👑 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗛𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗜𝗡! 👑

She came, she saw, and she completely decimated the up-run! Gerda Steyn has done it again, storming across the finish line to set an absolutely mind-boggling 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝗼𝗳 𝟱:𝟰𝟰:𝟱𝟯!⏱️🔥

Lifting the tape in Pietermaritzburg with that iconic, unstoppable smile, Gerda put on a masterclass in endurance, heart, and pure determination. She didn't just conquer the brutal hills today, she owned them. ⛰️💨

Through every single kilometer of relentless climbing, she embodied the very soul of the 2026 campaign: Ska Fela Moya, never lose hope, never give up!

South Africa and the world stand in absolute awe of you, Gerda. An immortal legend of The Ultimate Human Race! 👑🇿🇦

It’s here. 🌍

After years of racing, building, and believing, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon has officially passed the final stage of assessment and become the 8th Abbott World Marathon Majors race in the world. And the first, ever, on African soil. 🏅

On 23 May 2027, we take our place alongside Tokyo, Boston, London, Sydney, Berlin, Chicago and New York.

But this moment doesn’t belong to us. It belongs to you. Every runner who showed up season after season. Every partner, sponsor, volunteer, club captain, and supporter who refused to let go of this dream. 🙌

Africa. We did this. This is our collective victory. ✨
