Today we had 🇫🇮 vs 🇮🇪 on board for Jarno 50th birthday. Swore we saw a passing iceberg in 11 deg water which made fishing difficult but we still managed to get them into some fish! Fresh snoek for dinner and reef fish all released to swim another day!

Jody and the boys 🇿🇦joined us today catching and releasing some beautiful reds, with one of the biggest of the season at 50cm! They also landed a beaut of a Yellowtail that went home for a rugby braai!

Awesome time out with our guests joining us from 🇶🇦 for some inshore fishing catching their first ever Yellowtail. After the trip they got to have the freshest yellowtail sachimi ever at our lovely False bay marlin and tuna club with their family!

Today we celebrate National Lighthouse Day by shining a light on one of False Bay’s most iconic landmarks – Roman Rock Lighthouse.

We have the privilege of passing this remarkable lighthouse every time we head to sea and the view never gets old.

Standing proudly at the entrance to Simon’s Town Harbour since 16 September 1861, Roman Rock Lighthouse is the only lighthouse in South Africa built on a single rock in the sea. Constructed from prefabricated cast iron sections shipped from England, it took four years to complete due to the challenging weather and rough seas. (lighthousessouthafrica.com⁠)

For more than 160 years, this remarkable lighthouse has guided countless vessels safely through the waters of False Bay. Although now fully automated, it remains a proud symbol of South Africa’s rich maritime heritage and a familiar sight to everyone who spends time on the bay. (Wikipedia⁠)

If you’ve ever fished, sailed, kayaked, or simply admired the view across False Bay, you’ll know that Roman Rock is far more than a lighthouse—it’s part of the soul of Simon’s Town.

At Ocean Life charters you are always welcome to take what you catch home with you, I always love getting feedback from our guests after eating what they caught, here we have guests sharing how their calamari was prepared a Thai style on the braai with Yellowtail on the side! Alternatively there is a top class resturant at the marina that is always happy to prepare your catch for you after your trip!

We had an action packed weekend on board Ocean Life with guests joining us from 🇺🇸 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇿🇦 the weather was magnificent and fishing was a bit difficult but we managed a lovely variety!

Catch of the weekend has to go to Even, he climbed off a 16hr flight a couple hours before for his first ever saltwater fishing experience and landed some lovely size yellowtail which were then prepared for him and his family for lunch by chef Gary in False Bay Yacht Club!

All red fish were tagged and released, we even managed to recapture one Roman of close to 50cm that we tagged a year ago that swam off strong for a second time off Ocean Life!!
