Cape Town pair dominate National Beach Volleyball tour
Leo Williams and Grant Goldschmidt bag fifth Flying Fish Beach Volleyball title
Western Cape duo of Leo Williams and Grant Goldschmidt ended off the eighth Flying Fish Beach Volleyball tournament on a high note after winning the last tournament in Sandton played between 2-3 June. Williams and Goldschmidt, who are the number one ranked beach volleyball side in South Africa, secured their fifth tournament victory of the season.
Their five tournament titles include the opening two tournaments, Stellenbosch and the Durban leg of the series. Williams recently returned from Mozambique where he paired up with Jamaine Naidoo, representing South Africa, in the Africa Championships. The pair lost in the final to Morocco. Naidoo and his partner, Morias Abreu, were Williams and Goldschmidt’s opponents in the Sandton final.
Dutch team of Lianne Vink and Dieke Hessels secured their fourth tournament victory after beating Palesa Masinga and Christin del Carme. Vink and Hessels, who are based in Cape Town, are currently ranked as the country’s top beach volleyball side. The international duo eased through the weekend on their way to securing the final tournament title.
The Flying Fish Beach Volleyball series started in August 2016 and was hosted in five provinces. The new season is set to get underway in August 2017 and promises to deliver some exciting action both on and off the sand.
